Another day, another lame Google product that oozes the usual "web-based" BS. They really should just stick to search engines.

9 months of running Google Chrome as a web browser and suddenly they are qualified to make an OS? Other than the search engine I've never felt moved to use anything else by Google. From what I could gather in the article you posted, the OS is going to be a steaming pile of garbage on anything other than those stupid netbooks.

Yeah, so, who were we calling "the borg" before? Microsoft? Well google is assimilating all ... but their cube is more colorful, and it's actually a sphere, not a cube.

I really really really hope that it won't have that backdoor killswitch like android does to remotely uninstall software without the users consent. Which they do in the name of security........ if they did it in the name of security then they'd release the source code for that, just like the rest of the android platform...
Google seems to be doing as good job at pretending to be the good guy, yet discretely playing the part of tyrannical dictator and doing some of the same things we all hate about MS.... If you want examples/facts I'd be glad to post them.

Anyways, that said, I do like a lot of stuff that google does. Even if some of it is half evil.

Google is a huge asshole. This, I agree with.

But it doesn't mean I still don't like em.

Still - there - Simplicity and stripping down the OS back to what it really should be: your OS ...

That would do everyone a world of awesome. Man, I remember when we did cool shit on 25 and 33mhz systems - and it ruled. People are fucking over our general computing experience. We have hardware that SHOULD be blazing fast......... but they're not. Really - 2ghz crawling like shit? It's not the hardware. Our hardware, even the five year old stuff - kicks ass. It's the OS, it's shitty software, it's shitty coding - and incompetent ASSHOLES designing the way everything works together.

( hint hint: outsourcing to losers .... .... .... no offense, but Indian code blows chunks. Ever since people started moving coding & real work over there, the IT world has been turning to shit. Even the web, their web design eats shit too. I tell you - if we wanted quality work - USA, Europe - we've got the absolute supreme best IT people here. Raise the bar - don't lower it. )

Maybe, Google will impress. Who knows.

Yes! Indian devs suck ass!! I know from first hand experience. They have no concept of even the simplest of programming conventions. thedailywtf.com is probably mostly derived from the indians...

And I do like that they are focusing on speed and slim design... I hope those are more than just words... I really do. Cuz I too like google even though i know how evil they can be at the same time. My harsh comments against them were said mainly because I think that too many people see google as a saint among sinners ...

VirtuaOS.... sure the original will be like the netbook interface, but at least it's not like Phoenix's hybrid which COSTS MONEY TO OBTAIN. I like how google's stuff is independent though. If you like gmail, you don't need to have picasa, you can ignore each function because they're not inter weaved. Not like Apple and their stuff, or Microsoft and their stuff or facebook and those FUCKING RETARDED APPS AND SHIT. If you hate googleOS, then you're fine... but at least it won't be like facebook with their "FUCK WHAT YOU CARE! NEW INTERFACE FUCKWADS! NEW APPS FUCKWADS! WE'RE WAY BETTER THAN WE USED TO BE!"

Chrome is seriously one of the crappiest pieces of software any major corporation ever had the gall to release for free. It has crap security and I hate the interface. Incidentally, in a recent PC World test, Chrome was only an average of .55 seconds faster than IE and Firefox (which had nearly the same speed.)

Seriously though, Chrome isn't that bad. It lacks a little, but it's not half bad. I'd for sure rank it higher than IE, but firefox... that's iffy. It's like a utorrent vs Azureus/Vuze argument. (Webkit vs.... w/e the hell it was)

Also, I really don't see how google is anti-competitive. But that's just me.

Also, google invests greatly in Linux. Another big guy to do the same, IBM.
