Why Google’s Chrome OS Will Die [/shameless plug]

Why do I feel more retarded after reading this?

Quote
Google won’t be getting any Mac users

I may berate many computer users at times, but I know that mac users aren't stupid enough to realize that a netbook is no where close to contending with a macbook.

Quote
Android never took off

AFAIK, google isn't the only one in the android project. HTC is one of the first to use the OS on their phones, but I think other companies have decided to screw around with the programming to get an interface they like. (To fight vs iPhone interface for smartphones). This thing is afterall.... open source.

Quote
Open source has been tried and failed on netbooks

Google’s Chrome OS isn’t the first attempt at putting free software on netbooks, as Linux distributions such as Ubuntu Netbook Remix – the current version known as Jaunty Jackalope – have been sold on only a small number of netbooks. Many companies tried to sell netbooks with only a Linux distribution on board, but sales were astonishingly low, and many consumers who had bought the system had major difficulties in using it. Microsoft Windows XP makes up nearly all of netbook sales, with a small number of companies offering a choice in OS, and a smaller number of companies offering their own Linux based OS.

AFAIK, open source isn't out there to "win". It's there as an alternative and who installs these OSes? Manufacturers? How do you get Jaunty on a netbook? Dell or yourself. Well, no wonder why it's not on a netbook. Most consumers are retarded and Dell sucks sweaty monkey balls.

Quote
Windows is already going to be a major contender with 7

Not going to deny this. But here's the dealio. Google OS was never meant to stretch E-penor in any way.

I didn't read the article... but isn't it to soon to say something like that? It's like trying to predict weather 2 years from now.
Should i read it, geoffreak?

In any case, I stopped using Google months ago. I hate their anti-competitive practices. Don't be evil? Follow your own advice.
But you still run windows don't you? Oh well... I'm a hypocrite too ;)

AND BING?!?!?!?! *vomit*  :-X
Haven't touched  it, and if you've seen me enough on this forum, you'd know that I will never even go near it even with a 10 foot pole!

Time for a shower....  :'(

EDIT:
After reading Fohfoh's comments on the article... I think I'll pass on reading it... It'll just piss me off

Microsoft doesn't steal my private information, at least.  And I'm free to use Firefox, too.

Why? It's just a search engine. Results are just as good as Google, and certain features, such as image search, are superior.

Actually MS does steal your private information in a few of their apps. Though some of it is anonymous from what i understand... (Ms media player, Ms Search, and more)

I thought the user agreement was modified to keep google from taking that information from chrome (besides usage type of into etc which many other programs do regularly)

I use Bing too :p

i'll probably upgrade from Vista to 7 and not give a second thought to google chrome if the reviews are favorable. As long as it works I don't really care, I really have no problems with vista except  GFWL. Although windows 7 will fall short of expectations just like it always does it'll probably be more refined than something google can crap out in a year.

One, you can turn that off in WMP, and two, MS does track info like Google does, not evenly remotely close.

Obviously, and I've chosen the search engine I like best. I complain about Bing's name and that it has too many ads. Other than that, it's decent.

I'm not so sure about the result you get from using Bing but I have to agree it's image search is much better.

I knew you would react that way so I made the post :D

This move made by google isn't really surprising. I've been using Chrome since it came out and it's really fast, lightweight and if you look at the interface, it's really designed for use in a netbook. Compare the amount you can view in IE or even Firefox and you'll notice that Chrome's viewable area is bigger compared to those two.

What concerns me are the following:
1. The amount of information they get from me e.g. personal info, usage stats
2. Too lightweight, it seems like it's only useful in netbooks

Yes, it's still running at 8%

Yeah, having images open in a separate frame is way handy.

I recall when it was called something else and you kept doing searches to win a prize. It was an annoying search engine imo. I'd rather use Altavista. (Damn Altavista for taking out the mp3 search function)

Why do you bother giving high expectations to Google Chrome OS? It's a NETBOOK OS. It's a glorified mobile OS on steroids and crack for fucks sake. (A mobile phone runs on 500-600 MHz, a netbook runs on 1.6 GHz) In that sense, you should be comparing it to Windows 95 or 98, not XP or anything higher.

Because aside from Apple and Microsoft, only Google has enough resources push their OS into the market. I'm discounting other Linux variants here not because they're "insignificant" but because most are not backed up by big companies (I can think of only two atm, Red Hat and Ubuntu)

Also, google plans to move the OS to the desktop market a little bit later on.

If they want to compete, they better be up to snuff. And my guess is they'll be patching that OS as much, if not more than MS.

Kind of... You're just belligerent.

In response to Driger though... First releases (regardless of time) usually suck shit with a bendy straw. Just always happens that way. Anyone recall the 1st gen iPod? The one that looked like someone drooled on a pillow and put ink on stains to use as buttons?

It's what "UPDATES" are for.

And AFAIK, Google refuses to "finish" many things. Everything is in Beta all the time. Reminds me of Yakitate Japan. Everything is a number till you get pro... then it JA-PAN time bitches!

Several of their services just came out of Beta. Gmail, Google Apps.

They've been doing that with Chrome if I'm not mistaken. The updater constantly runs in the background.

I believe Ubuntu is backed slightly by Dell and by Canonical. But the latter isn't big and Dell is "Uber Ghey".

Google doesn't need to push. It enjoys a nice fanbase. Just showing chrome around was enough for people to go, "Hey, that's cool, let's try it.". The only difference is that it isn't a leech to consumers like Apple.

In past experience, Google relies heavily on word of mouth for getting their products and programs and other things across. People like Google, and go to Google. Not the other way around. Bing's start (dunno what it is at now though) was like the big greasy man in the candy van without the molestation. "Come to me my precious... you will get cookie..."

I seriously doubt the Google OS will need to be pushed. More along the lines it will have special edition netbook ones to promote itself and then they'll make a very pretty picture guide to "installing Google OS on a netbook". Seriously, if you want to laugh at a netbook, why not laugh at the $600 designer edition Vivienne Tam netbook?

And AFAIK, Google refuses to "finish" many things. Everything is in Beta all the time. Reminds me of Yakitate Japan. Everything is a number till you get pro... then it JA-PAN time bitches!

Well, I guess those ones can't really be improved much more. Seriously though, I like the shift/ctrl selection of mail. FUCK HOTMAIL FOR TAKING THAT SHIT OUT AND MAKING ME SELECT SHIT ONE AT A TIME.

I think they're just adding functions in Chrome. One of the biggest critiques that it wasn't able to do certain things (when it was first released) was the reason for its original hatin'.

Well... it depends on quite a few things... Remember my post about the Win7 license agreement? well it will largely depend on that.
ATM I only run XP for video games (Which i play less than once a month) And thats about as far as I'm willing to go....

Also, MS has given the shaft to me on a more personally level which left me really screwed in a few business situations... So I have some personal resentment against them too.

You know, there are companies that are actually killing people.... Monsanto for example.
Seriously, if you think Microsoft is one of the most evil companies you need to get out of the fucking dungeon.
All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out.
