All I know is that it's holding up development of Dream Chapters.

Same here. But isn't that countdown hinting about 1245 days until release?
Also, the game sounds too promising, maybe that in 4 years it'll be possible, though I really doubt that countdown is real.

Indeed, it was a sad day when Funcom turned away from making quality adventure games and started making mediocre MMOs.

While the concept of the game is awesome and the settings in the modern world are also appealing, I have seen the game play. The game mechanics are dull and unimpressive.

For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

I seem to enjoy the possibility of personalized looking characters, avatars you can recognize by seeing them on the map. Instead of the WoW approach of everyone looking like they tripped in a hardware store.

Im gonna try this, I think it will be fun. Played Anarchy online for many years, and can't seem to find a game that can fill that gap, but I think this will.

Don't think they can afford to "fail" as they did with AoC, and since AO community is falling apart while waiting for new engine, they will do ther best to make a good game to please all the people waiting for this.

My only problem is that I might need a new computer to play it, so better start saving some money;)
The problem with the world is that the intelligent  people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

They will not fail as hard as AoC for a simple reason: Gaute Godager who is pretty much responcible for the AoC mess left the company after his epic failure was exposed. Craig Morrison took over the AoC project and as you can see that game is actually good enough to be a success if it only was near this state during the release. Likewise TSW is being directed by Ragnar Tørnquist, who was behind The longest journey and dreamfall games as well as Anarchy Online.

My point is with Godager out of picture I doubt there will be as much mismanagement as it was with AoC.

The concept I like the most is that your "gear" will be clothes. A lot of different ones, not so unlike APB. You won't have to be in a stripper outfit if you are female, or in a bulky tin-can if you are male.

I'm excited about this one. I was a long time Anarchy Online player. Funcom makes deep games and isn't afraid of breaking the mold and doing things different. For all the hate AoC received at launch, it was still a breath of fresh air. Low fantasy setting, fatalities, the combo combat, collision detection, cutting edge graphics, great music and an open pvp system made it stand out. Pity it was launched with very little content, which ultimately caused it to fizzle out. That and a broken crafting system. From what I hear FC did eventually manage to turn things around and AoC is a pretty decent games these days.

Lots to be excited about with TSW. No levels, skill based progression. Ability to switch builds on the fly. Deep and extensive crafting. The unique present day setting. Character customisation. And hopefully a deep and engaging story with many puzzles to solve.

The only thing about the game I'm a little disappointed in is the lack of variety in combat animations so far, at least based on the many game play videos I've seen. It looks like you're spamming the same 3 animations over and over. Hopefully they look into this and spice things up a little before launch.

I'm definitely gonna try this one.

It's supposed to have no levels, and entirely skill based. I was hoping it was something of an action shooter/fighter, essentially a better version of Gunz, but it looks less epic then that.

I'll take a look at gameplay video and decide if it's worth it, but it seems like it's going to be quite forced. The idea is quite good though.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

So I finally got around to playing this (was busy getting bored in Tera) and it seems to be even more boring than standard mmos...every "class" seems to be the same with slight variations, there doesnt seem to be anything to do except quest (which are done pretty well...if you can stand that sorta thing), skill progression is essentially the same thing as standard levels, and my biggest problem is there aren't any instances/group things besides the occasional lolpvplol (tab->spam w/e ranged skill you have until thing dies->repeat) might be better at a higher "level" but there doesnt seem to be enough variation or skill depth for me to be interested...it's back to Aion for me I guess...

Also wtf, havent mmo companies learned that faction based games are bad?! everyone who's ever played one knows how this is gonna turn out, 1 faction reigning supreme and all pvp will fade away

I'm in the CB, and I honestly don't care for it that much. That's all I'm gonna say.

Cute, huh?

That's a shame. I had hoped the non-traditional level-less and class-less system would promote a higher degree of variety and customization rather than forcing everyone into a featureless void of redmagery. Guildwars 2 seems to be accomplishing unique game play experiences  through the immense list of skill possibilities within every class, I thought The Secret World would've gone further.

I don't understand the appeal of faction systems in the first place, it's not like being in a guild and stories/roleplaying in MMOs tend to be the worst. They should have made affiliations as flexible as possible, added more secret societies/shadow government organizations/insidious corporation which you can join or create a mercenary company of your own.

I dont mind factions, what I would love tho is more than 2. . .
its a little annoying only having 1 enemy :P . . .
Aion could get me back if they made the balaur a playable faction
WoW could get me back if they made the scourge a playable faction

. . .but nop =/

Lost the interest completely now. I guess GW2 comes out as a clear winner for me.

If you preorder from amazon you can try the beta weekend, there is one this weekend i dont know how many more they have planned. If you dont like it just cancel the preorder. My friend is going to play this so I preordered to try it this weekend and the story seems like it could be ok kinda feels like a left for dead mmo. But I didnt care much for the combat and stuff so I probably wont pick this up at release who knows maybe in 6 months if im bored with nothing to do ill try it then.

TSW does have three factions.  Also there is FireFall coming out (at some point), from what I remember everyone plays the same race then people can create guilds (called armies but basically the same thing) and compete with each other that way.
