Chanbara beauty was kind of funny as well, slightly lame since it's moreso fan service, but if you walk into that without expectations, it's kind of enjoyable.

+1 The end when they go super saiyajin was pretty bad ass :D Plus, the chick was hot.

No Man's Land - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0283509/
Funny and deep. I didn't know whether to cry or laugh in the end, so brilliantly put together...

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. By Douglas Adams.

I am mainly a horror buff, and I also am a fan of Takeshi Miike, so my picks reflect these facts.

Fudoh
One Missed Call
Ichi The Killer
Azumi
Audition
Dark Water
Suicide Circle
Stacy
Sky High
Evil Dead Trap, of course
Ju-on
The Eye
Tomie
A Tale of Two Sisters
Shutter
Any Dario Argento films

Just a short list, lots of old stuff.

if you people like true life storys (or in this case true life experiment test) and psychology then you must see Das Experiment..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_Experiment

I wrote an essay (and got full points :P) of it when we discussed it's theory on psychologys class.. And whats the cool thing about is that it is based on true story...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_Prison_Experiment

however there is american remake of it, so it might be possible that you guys have already seen it :S

Other some good movies that I recommend: (finnish movies..)

Kummeli: Gold Fever (really good comedy and if you want to laugh a lot! :D im sure it can be find somewhere

Watched "Keinohrhasen" with english subtitles (rabbitwithoutears) not so long ago... it was hilarious ^^ It's about a reporter who has to do social work in a Kindergarten in order to not get into jail. The woman who runs the Kindergarten that was chosen for his penalty though knows him from childhood... they went into the same class in school and back then he ridiculed her in front of the whole class. Now she plans her revenge.

other nice ones (although not entirely comedic):
La vita e bella (Life is beautiful): a tragicomic italian film about a jew that is sent into a KZ with his son and in order to make it bearable for the boy he pretends it's all a gameshow

Wer früher stirbt ist länger tot (Who dies first is longer dead): a mortally comical bavarian film about a boy in a small mountain village whose mother died at his birth and starts to believe that he murdered his mother, so he tries to find a new wife for his dad.

I second "das Experiment"

The House of Flying Daggers was good. Zhang Ziyi and all.
Has anyone watched Red Cliff? The original was released in two parts, each three hours long, but apparently it was spliced into a single film in the West... The first part is amazing, and Takeshi Kaneshiro as Zhuge Liang? Genius (Pun!). Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun and Guan Yu? Awesome. Zhou Yu is brilliantly enigmatic. The guy who played Sun Quan was pretty good too.

My sister and I happened to watch A Very Long Engagement/Un long dimanche de fiançailles, it wasn't bad, being by the same director as Amelie, and Marion Cotillard's character was quite fun, though the movie itself dragged on a bit.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but Jet Li's Fearless was a pretty good Kung Fu flick.

And yeah, Pan's Labyrinth is like Alice in Wonderland... for adults!

That movie alone pushed me into the realm of facing my fears. I can now proudly say I am a screwed up motherfucker. (Watched a shitload of Japanese, Thai and other horrors and now I'm desensitized)

GREAT movie. (IMO)

Chocolate. It's not supposed to be as good action as Ong Bak, but to watch a female KICK ASS in a movie like this... the action alone blows the mind. It's FUCKING AMAZING!~

i wanted to say red cliff too. :) and you are soooo right that Takeshi Kaneshiro as Zhuge Liang is amazing! e.g. in the scene with the wing formation.. he is rly cool. the second part is very watchable as well :)

i can second 'amelie' and 'Life is beautiful' as well. these films are special.

a good and really shocking film is 'Cidade de Deus' (city of god). it's about violence and crime in the slums of rio de janeiro (based on a real story).
- i just saw that it was posted already. so no new films here.... :P

First 3 that came to my mind & weren't mentioned yet:
Der Himmel über Berlin/ Wings of Desire i must have seen that one about 8 times ... very interesting, poetic take on the nature of angels, and humans.
http://www.wim-wenders.com/movies/movies_spec/wingsofdesire/wingsofdesire.htm

Gozu by Miike Takashi ... yakuza mindfuck ... disturbing breast milk scene XD
http://www.midnighteye.com/reviews/gozu.shtml

Hiroshima Mon Amour by Alain Resnais very deep intense movie about love and loss.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052893/

Some austrian comedians have also filmed/starred in/written great movies, like Komm süsser Tod http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0271029/ but I'm not sure anybody who's not from this place would get the humour.

Be With You

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0442268/

I get vibes similar to Air TV and "The Time Traveler's Wife". But I'll be damned if this one doesn't blow both of them out of the water.

While its not a 'non-english' film, El maquinista (The Machinist) is a really good mindf*ck.
