Foreign(non-english/US) Movie Recommendations

<< < (9/13) > >>

harpy:
Russian:
Nochnoy dozor aka Night Watch
and
Dnevnoy dozor aka Day Watch ( did not find it as interesting as first part, but still nice)
both movies made after cult books(russian book), I find that book is better, but I always think so,leaves  more room for imagination ;D
I think I heard something about that Hollywood or something is planing or was planing or something to ruin this movie into big screen blockbuster with no idea and meaning, but just nice pictures and so on...

that's about it of what I can remember right now

so, as the rad is here, I would like to ask for help identifying japanese horror movies.  So I remember watching trilogy of japanese horror movies, that were similar to Grudge(japanese version - Ju-on). I know that the first movie of these series was made into Hollywood crap as well. >_<

Both of the Dozor movies came out in US theaters. You can get them on DVD and stuff. Last I heard, Fox bought the rights to the rest of the books so they will be made in English and then dubbed in Russian from now on.

Also, no love for Stephen Chow? He wrote, directed, and stared in several great action comedies (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, and The God of Cookery (the worst of the three)).

Kukushka: Russian comedy/war drama. A very odd film about how a Finnish and Russian soldier end up living with a Sami farmer during WWII. The Russian and Finn are driven by the war to hate each other and no one speaks the language of the other. (I am not very good at short synopses)

fohfoh:
Tokyo Gore Police.

HOLY SHIT THAT'S A LOT OF MINDLESS VIOLENCE!

It's sort of funny though.

Viseroid:
Ying Xiong, also known as "Hero" . A great Chinese film about a real hero :)

Hey, that movie was quite good (though I am a sucker for Jet Li)
