Foreign(non-english/US) Movie Recommendations

Okay, we all know Kurosawa Akira, so I'm not even bothering mentioning that his entire oeuvre is required viewing. I also really liked the Zatoichi movies (boy, were there A LOT).
But to me, the single best Japanese film to ever hit my screen is definitely Tampopo, otherwise known as the first Japanese noodle western. This film is so much fun, that I feel good EVERY SINGLE TIME I THINK ABOUT IT. Which I do frequently. It's a bitch that it's pretty hard to get hold of. But seriously, get this. You'll thank me in ways you didn't think possible.

haha oh yeah I can remember that movie... it had so many funny facepalm moments. Although I never got what exactly all those random in-between scenes had to do with the original storysetting O_o I think we recorded it on video tape back when it was aired in TV in about 1996 or something like that...feels like ages ago. But I've never seen it being aired again since then.
