Russian:
Nochnoy dozor aka Night Watch
and
Dnevnoy dozor aka Day Watch ( did not find it as interesting as first part, but still nice)
both movies made after cult books(russian book), I find that book is better, but I always think so,leaves  more room for imagination ;D
I think I heard something about that Hollywood or something is planing or was planing or something to ruin this movie into big screen blockbuster with no idea and meaning, but just nice pictures and so on...

that's about it of what I can remember right now

so, as the rad is here, I would like to ask for help identifying japanese horror movies.  So I remember watching trilogy of japanese horror movies, that were similar to Grudge(japanese version - Ju-on). I know that the first movie of these series was made into Hollywood crap as well. >_<

Both of the Dozor movies came out in US theaters. You can get them on DVD and stuff. Last I heard, Fox bought the rights to the rest of the books so they will be made in English and then dubbed in Russian from now on.

Also, no love for Stephen Chow? He wrote, directed, and stared in several great action comedies (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, and The God of Cookery (the worst of the three)).

Kukushka: Russian comedy/war drama. A very odd film about how a Finnish and Russian soldier end up living with a Sami farmer during WWII. The Russian and Finn are driven by the war to hate each other and no one speaks the language of the other. (I am not very good at short synopses)

Okay, we all know Kurosawa Akira, so I'm not even bothering mentioning that his entire oeuvre is required viewing. I also really liked the Zatoichi movies (boy, were there A LOT).

But to me, the single best Japanese film to ever hit my screen is definitely Tampopo, otherwise known as the first Japanese noodle western. This film is so much fun, that I feel good EVERY SINGLE TIME I THINK ABOUT IT. Which I do frequently. It's a bitch that it's pretty hard to get hold of. But seriously, get this. You'll thank me in ways you didn't think possible.

The summer of kikujiro

The music is good. I stumbled upon this one when I found out that Joe Hisaishi made the OST for this movie.

haha oh yeah I can remember that movie... it had so many funny facepalm moments. Although I never got what exactly all those random in-between scenes had to do with the original storysetting O_o  I think we recorded it on video tape back when it was aired in TV in about 1996 or something like that...feels like ages ago. But I've never seen it being aired again since then.

Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning

Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning is a 2005 motion picture. Produced over seven years by five friends in a flat with a small budget and the support of hundreds of fans it became a huge internet hit with over 8 million downloads to date. It is a dark science fiction comedy about domination of the world and the universe, and a parody of the Star Trek and Babylon 5 universes.

Fallen Angels aka. Duo luo tian shi is one of my all time favourites. It's tells the story of three persons living on the darker side of Hong Kong. I find it fascinating. Seen it a lot of times and still not bored with it.

Chungking Express aka. Chung Hing sam lam is the pair movie of it. It tells the story of two cops and two women. This movie always manages to make me smile and gives that happy feeling inside.

All in all I find a lot of Wong Kar Wai's work very good. "The Days of Being Wild", "In the mood for love", "2046" are also very good in my opinion. If you're up for romance, affairs and such.

And to continue with the theme of bringing Swedish movies to the spotlight I did find Fucking Åmål excellent when I saw it. But it has been some time so I should probably rewatch it. It tells the story of two teenage girls who deal with lots of different problems including their crush on each other. A pretty realistic way of portraying the teen age life of it's time.
*Sigh*

And if you're up for something Finnish I'd say watch Dog Nail Clipper aka. Koirankynnen leikkaaja. It's a story about a man who suffers from brain injury. Due to it his he is looking for simple work that he can do. While he might be simple it doesn't stop him from pondering. Excellent movie.

I didn't notice "Kung Fu Hustle" having a mention yet. Who wouldn't love it?

EDIT: Just finished rewatching Fucking Åmål and man it's good. It felt so real I could almost touch it. That could have been from my school. The young actors do a pretty good job. An excellent movie. Without a doubt.

I think Crows Zero and the sequel Crows Zero II are based on the manga Crows. They tell a story behind the characters in Suzuran, a violent high school. Basicly it's about Japanese students beating the crap out of each other.

I thought they were quite nice.

Here is my Contribution.  :)

Adams æbler / Adam's Apples
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0418455/
Quote
Ivan is a priest in a rural church known for the apples that grow on a large tree in front. He's odd: seeing the world through rose-colored glasses, in denial about personal facts, and convinced he's at war with Satan. The rectory is a half-way house for recently paroled convicts. Adam arrives for 12 weeks, a large, tough neo-Nazi, first baffled by Ivan's thick-headed optimism, then angry. He vows to break Ivan's faith. Meanwhile, in exasperation at Ivan's insistence, Adam sets a personal goal: to bake an apple cake. All goes awry for the tree: crows, worms, lightening. The Book of Job gives Adam perverse insight, and his hooligan mates provide the resolution's spring.

Stestí / Something Like Happiness
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0406098/
Quote
Three young adults in Most sort out feelings and responsibilities: Monika's boyfriend has left for the States, her mother wants her to join him there, and if the invitation does come, what should she do? Toník is a nice guy, his love for Moni is unrequited. He's trying to rebuild his family's crumbling house; a nearby factory has made an offer to buy the land. With Moni, he watches out for the two young sons of Dasha, their friend who's in a hopeless long-term affair with a married man: Dasha is at once unstable, unrealistic, neglectful of her boys, and cruel to those who help. For whom is this something like happiness?

Äideistä parhain / Mother of Mine
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0343221/
Quote

The situation changes when Eero's mother tells with a letter that she wants to go with her lover to Germany and Eero should remain with his foster mother. Thus Eero becomes Signe's son. Now she cares lovingly for him. Eero makes friends with the little girl Siv and enjoys childhood for a while. However, after the end of the war the boy has to go back to Finland against his will where his mother waits for him. Never again he will be able to trust her, since she has disappointed him too often. 60 years later, invited to Signe's burial, he will understand while reading all letters that both women only wanted the best for him.

Good Bye Lenin!

Two traumatic events affect the life of East Berliner, Christiane Kerner. First, in 1978, her husband, Robert, runs off to freedom and another woman in the west, leaving her to take care of their two adolescent children, Ariane and Alex, by herself. Always a good Socialist, Christiane devotes her life to the cause as a symbol of anger toward her husband. And second, in 1989, she sees a now grown Alex marching in an anti-Berlin Wall demonstration and being hauled off by police. As a result, she suffers a heart attack and goes into a coma. While Christiane is in her coma, Germany drastically changes with the Wall coming down and the imminent official reunification of East and West into one. The Kerner's personal life also changes with all aspects of the new found capitalist world infiltrating their home. When Christiane emerges from her coma eight months later, her health situation is still tenuous. Any shock she experiences could possibly lead to another heart attack and certain death. To protect his mother, Alex decides not to tell her of the new Germany in which they live. He feels he can better protect her at home, where he can control to what she is exposed. Although most around him don't support the idea - including Ariane and Lara (Alex's Russian immigrant girlfriend who is also Christiane's nurse) - they go along with the extreme measures Alex goes to to recreate East Germany in their home. How long can they keep up the ruse?
