Re: Saki second season?????

Gonzo isn't doing much at the moment (thanks erious :P )  They were partially absorbed by their parent company.

But their successful IP's don't seem to be in limbo. Strike Witches 2 is being done by AIC and the last half of Saki was done by picture magic. Saki is based on a manga, so that helps it's chances. I think there will be a season 2, but given the time between strike witches seasons (3 1/2 years) and where the Saki manga is, it might be a year or 2... or 3.

Also, this was the last frame of the last episode:

Gotta say, I hated Saki, it was awful Oo **ducks to avoid the burning chair**
Dropped at episode 8 or something I think, but maybe I'm not really objective, can't really think of an ecchi anime I actually liked or finished lol.

Your quote from another thread:

Saki is on the low end of the ecchi spectrum. Not even close to full blown ecchi shows like queens blade, or Rosario+Vampire. Saki did have a lot of moe-blob yuri. Perhaps that is what you meant?

Slice of life my ass.

Think hikaru no go stripped of all authenticity, replace every character with a moe moe lesbian, add in levelling and ridiculous avatar battles, subtract all panties, especially from the lolis, and suddenly remember it's about a board game just in time for the standard tournament arc.

It's a complete mess, but it's fun.  Much like strike witches before it.

This is a much better summary than slice of life. It is basically a fan service series that just happen to take place around mah-jong (whose rules you don't need to know).
hence why i've dropped it after three episodes (that was way more than it deserved already)
scrolled through the episodes a bit as well, i know i won't be missing anything
i was secretly hoping for an akagi approach but they are nothing alike

watching http://www.anime-planet.com/anime/shion-no-oh as well, so far that one seems ok, doesn't seem to be fan service/ecchi/no substance garbage

You were hoping for an akagi/death note like anime from a gonzo show with moeblobs?  Interesting...

Moeblob shows aren't for everyone. They're an acquired taste. Like coffee. But Saki did have it's share of mahjong play. One particular round lasted 5 eps. Three quarters of the show took place during a mahjong match. The way you make it sound, it's as if every other episode was a beach episode.
To each his own I guess.
As an avid mahjong player, and given the current crop of mahjong anime that exists, I thought it was a refreshing change of pace.

Yup, again, cant say I enjoyed an ecchi anime. By "ecchi anime" I mean anime with focus on ecchi, maybe saki doesnt focus on ecchi like say Rosario+Vampire, but theres more focus than say Code Geass.
My quote stating that I enjoy ecchi in anime is correct, cause I do! good examples would be Code Geass and maybe Michiko to Hatchin, animes that have ecchi in them but they don't let the ecchi have more focus than it should.
In Saki's case I felt the focus on ecchi was way bigger and that it was actually too focused on the ecchi that not enough focus was given into the Plot, while I didn't really expect much the plot was overall boring, cliche, and very predictable, and I think that if the studio tried to work more on the plot instead of the ecchi elements, I might've liked the anime better.

tl;dr - I like ecchi in animes, don't like it when the focus on the ecchi comes instead of plot, characters etc..

Edit: about the part concerning "Moe-Blob" while I'm not 100% sure I know what it is, if it is what I think it is, I consider that as ecchi even if its not ecchi per se.

i knew it wasn't going to be like akagi...
but i did hope it would actually be about something, turns out it's just garbage
also i refuse to call moeblob a "taste"

"Taste" is a word that defines someones like or dislike. Basically, someones opinion. I think half of Japan would disagree with you given the popularity there of moeblob shows like Sora no Oto and K-On. If refusing to accept stuff works, let me know. I want to refuse gravity first and foremost.

in my opinion it has nothing to do with taste (if anything it should be classified as "no taste"), more to do with something being wrong in the brain and with society
i call it the paris hilton phenomenon
it was bound to infect anime as well

I love this show, but found some flaws... Here is the first one I guess:

Kana discards a 4 of characters,
(click to show/hide)

Then proceeds to immediate call a Kan with the 4 of characters. Which would mean she had 5 total. Since 4 is a kan. That's like having 5 aces in a game of poker...
(click to show/hide)

All of this happens within the 7:50  -- 8:00 in the 16th episode.

Just a fun fact.

IIRC they added the same errors in the game to the anime which were already in the manga...
Two or three or so...

I believe there were more errors than those throughout the show (like there being more stones for each player than there should be).

Some are probably fixed in the DVDs, though I don't know how much, and if errors like these are treated in the first place.

Higurashi no naku koro ni had one majong episode, pity as they did a pretty good job with it.

The recent one?
Your link was removed so I'm just guessing.
Their torrent on Nyaa was removed as well so  :o
They look decent though when I last saw it.

The only other BD version I saw was from Kotori-Asobi, quality was pretty bad if you asked me.
