Still running XP?
Takeshi:
This is a question to all XP users:
Why do you still have that OS? Why haven't you changed to Vista? Because of a shitty computer? Because of money? Because of all the things you can't do on Vista while you can do that on XP? Because you wouldn't be able to play 720p/1080p encodes? Because you don't like Vista? Because of User Account Control (UAC)?
I'm curious as to people's reasons why they haven't changed yet, people have different computers and different opinions. Just wondering about how many there is in the same boat as me. ;)
For me it's a bit of everything, I can't play 720p when I change to Vista even with CoreAVC. I can't use some of my programs, my computer runs too slow and I would have to install very little for the same performance on a Vista that I have on XP. Though mind you, if I had a good computer and my programs worked then I would change because there's so much more functions on a Vista. And seeing as I'm not a gamer, it doesn't mean that much to me, as long as my emulator works. And thing I do is play CS frequently. The interface is so much smother, and I'm sure W7 is even smother in the final version (have tried RC1).
But for me, I think it's a matter of:
1) When Microsoft turn off their support/windows update for XP
2) When my laptop turns dead (it said that right away when I tried to install Vista through the harddrive check)
Until then I'll stay with my beloved XP. ;D

Shitty computer is shitty.First of all,I have 1 GB of DDRRAM-enough to run it,not enough run it smoothly.Second, the RAM is faulty and I can't install Vista.I really can't.The installation fails.Same with windows 7,ubuntu or anything newer than XP.
Also,I don't like Vista.I've tried it when it came out.At that time there were only a few applications that were designed for Vista so I quit after 3 days.
Plus,I'm comfortable with XP.You don't abandon your old friend just because you find out he's gay.(though I did that with win 98...)
kureshii:
Because I can't find a good reason to install Vista instead, and because I don't want to wrangle with beta issues in Win 7. This machine came with XP, which has served me well so far. No reason to shell out money for a new OS (yes, I'm aware there's *free* Vista out there, wrangling with WGA cracks etc isn't my hobby though).
I'd much rather get *nix on this aging tablet of course, but when you're studying in a university where students are still largely using Windows-based systems, sticking with XP actually makes sense.
* kureshii silently curses the pervasive influence of MS Office

Actually, it should be Windows 7, which is Azure or whatever? That > Vista + XP.
And yes, Vista is 10 x better than XP, but sucks so much out of your hardware (specially the RAM). I'm on my 6th months of using Vista, I rarely restart Vista (run it 24/7, restart once every 1-2 months and as much as 3 months) and 0 errors ever since then. Vista is so stable, I'm in love with it. And Windows 7 is better, to what I hear, so I am switching to it next year around Jan or Feb.
