Still running XP?

Windows Vista "Do you want to do that? Are you SURE you want to do that?!"

In the 6 months I used Vista that pissed me the hell off. Waiting for Windows 7 to get a proper release then reformatting my laptop to that. Not that it gets used much anyway, as my primary machine is a Mac xD

I had never intended to use Vista, but since it came installed on my laptop I decided to give it a shot - I booted the computer, plugged in my USB keyboard (made by Microsoft mind you), and my Logitech trackball .... and it didn't fucking recognize them. I expected to have some hardware problems, maybe with the wireless card, video card, etc. - but no plug-n-play with a keyboard and mouse? Really?

After that I returned to my original plan of triple booting with Linux Mint, Fedora, and XP. As of right now I only actually boot into XP to play games, or sync my stupid Zune. Other than that I just run XP in VirtualBox so I can use ChemDraw with Microsoft Office; unfortunately the ChemDraw plugin doesn't work with OpenOffice  :(

... if only there was an acceptable ChemDraw alternative for Linux *sigh*

Forget Vista altogether. W7 has been surpringly rock solid for me, even after the XP->vista->w7 upgrade route. I'm not one to advocate m$ usually, but w7 is worth trying more-so than vista *bleh

edit: and fast very very fast

I kept getting BSOD with Win7 but I'm still advocating it. I think it's just an issue with my turbo cache laptop. The heat issues might contribute to it as well.

But I had vista die on me literally like 3 times. After the third time, I just said "fuck it" and went to Linux where I was happy for a few months till I got my hands on Win7 beta and happily dual booted until now.

You can very easily turn off the UAC. It's the first thing I did in Vista. I even figured out how to do it during the betas when Vista was so new you couldn't just Google it.

Windows 7, on the other hand, is worth paying for. XP is way the heck outmoded, anyway. I go back to it and think "Wow, where is all the features?"

I hope that's a typo. If you paid for Windows 7 you got screwed.
