English Dubs

Just look how much extra money these people are spending on dubbing anime. Considering that most anime fans prefer Japanese with subs, why are they spending so much extra money to make these dubs?

Extra money spent on dubbing = extra money needed for customers to purchase said anime (or for television companies to purchase showing rights). It just sounds like a lose-lose-lose situation for everyone.

At the end of the day not everyone is that much of a hardcore fan. My boyfriend will for the most part only watch anime with me in English as he doesnt like subtitles, and I've been asked many times by people for animes in English. You take away the English language option and completely alienate part of your audience

Do most fans prefer Japanese audio though? Specifically, do most of the NAs that buy licensed anime? That the vocal minority that inhabit most of the major forums do is one thing, but most consumers never go near those. I'd never watch a dubbed version of anything unless I had to (be it a Chinese movie, a French series or an anime), but being Swedish I've essentially lived with subtitles ever since I started watching other things on TV than children's shows. Most NAs, I imagine, have not. For what it's worth, Americans and British that I've grabbed anime for tend to request English audio, whereas Europeans typically couldn't care less.
Since this is often stated as a fact, it'd be nice to see the evidence. Presumably there's been some sort of major demographic survey on the matter at one point or another.

I hate English dubs, they all sound so weird. When I watch something that is dubbed I feel like I'm watching a kid's show. Most of the English dubs never matches the characters at all.
