Also funimation wasn't always as bad as all that especially back in the old DBZ days (mid 90's to early 00's) i actually *prefered* the dub (expect vegeta, i liked raspy euro vegeta better).

I definitely *did not* prefer the dubs. I'm a tad older though. When DBZ was airing in Japan, I was getting fansubs of it mailed to me on VHS tapes in the early mid 90's. So I watched the show in it's entirety before funi even licensed DBZ.
Most people grew up with the dubs though, they're used to it, it's a memory from their childhood, so they prefer it. It's normal. When I saw it on Cartoon Network with my buddy, we were laughing hysterically at how cartoonish everything sounded. After we found out funi was butchering episodes, translations and editing the show to their liking, I've held a deep seated hatred for them. I'm aware they now have the 'uncut' version, but the hate lingers. But that's my opinion. Not everyone agrees with it, and I acknowledge that.

Plus i like some american anime distributors, like ADV and MANGA. The first anime i ever watched on VHS was by manga, and sure it was dubbed but dubbed with quality. Some of the better anime i watched on DVD was by ADV, Excel Saga and it was extremly high quality had good dubs and subs, i also like the little trailers they'd show for other anime.

Well if what the fansub panel was saying becomes reality, nobody will be buying DVD's anymore in the future anyhow. It will all be streaming/simulcast.

i did have 2 dbz/gt japanese sub tapes at one point and goku always sounded child like to me, but then again i'd also heard that Dbz wasn't meant to be taken as seriously as people did in america. This is solely my opinion though, if i hadn't grown up watching it i might not have like it. i did like the uncuts much better but i still prefered Bruce Faulconers DBZ music.

Also if every thing goes to streaming i think since most peoples either Torrent or mIRC it will be downloading.
you will be able to download in full quality for a little more dough or stream shitty for free.

tatsujin thx!!( for nothin! ) thanks Sebur for the SIG!

It was a natural progression from the original Dragonball anime, into Z. (Same voice actress)
He was supposed to be super strong, with a heart of gold, but also very naive and childlike. Thus, his voice. This doesn't translate well, or make for a good americanized fighting super powerup show. So they pretty much did away with his naivety with some exceptions. But it's pretty out of character when he does do it.
And that's one of the reasons why I don't like the DBZ dubs, it's not faithful to the manga, or original anime. Thus my term 'Cartoonish'. But people grew up with it, and like it, so I don't want to chew away at their opinion with my 'purist' views. :P

You might be mixing up Dragonball, with DBZ.   DB was more comedy then action based, whereas DBZ was more serious and more about the fighting and drama (what little drama there was, anyhow)

Heres my 2 cents

Just to see the quality of Crunchy roll I watched a episode of naruto. Honestly it looks like complete crap blurry as hell looks like they tried to upscale a very low quality copy.  I unlike alot of people prefer my shows in 480p (and avi) seeing most of the anime I watch is at work and the computer I use is a little low on power it chokes on anything over 480 (or just plainly half assed encoded).

Now where these companies are doing it wrong is the distribution. IMO make it available for DL for 25-50 cents for 480p, and 50-75 cents for 1280p an episode, make them easy to locate, no DRM, and you will make WAY more money in the long run. Especially when you couple it with how a few of the cable/DSL companies are considering billing schemes that restrict total data transfer and charge additional after so many gigs of UL/DL, torrents might start dying at that point so they can cash in easy seeing alot of people would go back to IRC. Lets face it low charge easy to find files beat the hell out of IRC and BT any day.

Finally streaming does not work for everyone and lets face it there's nothing I hate more than watching a video and get the show to hang for 2 minutes due to a disconnection from the host or network congestion.

So untill they lower their price, distribute decent quality video, and make the anime easier to acquire sites like this will never go away.

Btw I do know making anime available for 25 cents to 75 cents a ep will not kill off piracy but IMO it would probably put a pretty big dent in it.

thats it about the industry and for fansubbers I agree with some of the others that say the sub styles from the early to mid 2000's were way easier to read than a fair ammount of the current ones.

And about the DBZ I saw the uncut dubbed eps and prefered them over the uncut subbed ones.  Only thing I hated were the voices of Master Roshi and Bulmas other than them the others seemed fine.  I tried to watch the subbed episodes and would fall asleep every time Vegeta would go into one of his monologues on how much he hates Kakorott ;)

Fansubbing will always be needed until anime either loses popularity where no one(from business to groups to viewers) really do not care anymore, or quality subs are disseminated to the public as fast as the industry can churn them out(how hard is it for JP companies to have English enabled sites to run subs off of and to sell directly to them as cost, I mean really they are the ones constantly screwing themselves over the way they treat their consumers...).

The industry is fragmented and unfocused on how to  get it out to a world wide public and still make money off it.

Localization in the form of dubbing or Americanized no karaoke subs or poorly Americanized manga translations are my absolute last choice of consumption because I hate the arrogant style of translation and lack of quality. Now if I could pay 15$ a month and get a solid translation from a web service I would pay it but they(JP companies) are not desperate enough to try and forge out a shared premium service.

I would rather pay alil to get it from a Japanese source where its loosely translated than get it from a willfully bad American source, IMO they(both JP and US companies) are looking at the wrong market, target fans first while keeping it assessable to knuckle dragging masses, if this means crap dubs for masses and better subs for the rest so be it.
