Scrapper problem XBMC, File names, tvdb
« on: August 02, 2009, 12:58:52 AM »
Dear friends, I need help.

I always use xbmc (xbox media center) to watch all my movies and animes. The problem i have, is that i can never get the movie details or the tv show episodes (anime series) to display either the right information, or to display anything at all, when using the library mode.

Please let me try and explain further, as i am finding it hard to convey the information that i need help with.

How do i get movie scrappers, tv show scrappers, such as tvdb and or animedb to update my files with the correct info.
And is there a software i need or something to correct the information.

I thought about changing the file names manually, but it led me to another question, if i did change the file names, its going to prevent me from seeding the files i just downloaded.

Does anyone else use xbmc here (by the way, its the best media app ever fyi) ?
Thank you in advance.

Yes, unless you use symlinks or shortcuts to make your torrent client think that they're still there.

Thats so beautiful. Unfortuneately with the way these files are named, i cant get the tvdb scrapper to fill and update the info.

HELP PLEASE

im sorry bakabt, if i cant find a work around, then i might now be able to go out of my way to seed above 1.0 ratios no more.

I really couldn't care less if you stopped seeding above 1.0 because we couldn't help you with YOUR problem using software that you didn't download from here.

Have you tried searching on google? Maybe XBMC's forums might be a better place to ask since you know.. it's a forum for their software.

PLease i appologise, if my earlier post came out to be offensive, I in now way meant for it to offend anyone. Than you to those who have offered suggestions.

I already did a google search a loong time ago, and unfurtunately all the links, are of people having the same problem as I, with none of them being resolved.

I asked here, cause i know alot of people, well from reading posts in comments section, people care about the file names, so i suspect that they are also using some media software too.

Still want to at least get a reply from someone in the same shoes as I.  I want to know what they did to deal with the situation.

I use Plex (a Mac OSX fork of XBMC) and can tell you that you will just have to rename the series.

Symbolic links can let your torrenting application continue seeding the files you use in XBMC, but the amount of effort required in making these just isn't worth it. Instead, just make a copy of the series you are currently seeding before renaming. If you have enough drive space to hold all the anime with XBMC, you have enough space to make copies of a few series.

Good torrenting practice is not to seed every torrent to a 1.0 ratio, but instead to only bother seeding torrents that need to be seeded. Torrents that give you a high upload speed are the ones that need to be seeded.

I have 180 different anime series archived with Plex so far with more to come. Also, I've added around 20 or so minor anime series to TheTVDB. It's rare to find a series that isn't on there now, but it is really easy to add them to the listing. Plex takes some time before it uses the updated data though (kinda inconvenient).

Finaly, someone in the same boat as me well kinda.

Ok few questions.

1 are you saying that for some all you did was just rename the folder ?
2 Did you, or do i have to rename all the files for an anime or just some ?
3. In regards to your seeding habit, what advice do you have  for me please, cause i always waited until it was 1.0 and with me trying to get library mode working,
I dont know what to do?

Thanks in advance.

Did you read this?

Google gave several good hits on solutions to this problem.

I almost gave you a rude reply.

If i could find the answers on google, will i be asking here.

There are 2 real solutions this problem, that cannot be fixed by me or any general person which are
they either add anidb scraper to xbmc which they havent,
or the files here on bakabt are named in ways that most other scrappers can understand

I hate it when people say use google. Im not stupid, i already tried that.

I only asked here because i wanted to know what someone in my same situation did.

I would advise that you read this. It explains how to add media in Plex, but it should be identical to how XBMC adds media.

In regards to seeding, just focus on the torrents that give you the highest possible upload speed. Don't bother keeping torrents that give you low speeds. Also, keep the number of torrents you are seeding to a minimum (don't do more than 2 unless you have a very high speed internet connection) and keep the number of peers connected to while seeding under 10.

To everyone that is just criticizing the OP or not posting useful information, don't bother posting. The questions (or at least some) are legitimate and are hard to find answers to online.

GeoFreak,

Thank you very much. I took your advice. I found some programs that helpmed rename my files, and corrected their metadata.

To help others here are the apps i used

Tv episode renamer, media scout and media center master. Be carefull as you use these programs.

I thought i should also share what you guys are missing
