Eureka Seven: Pocketful of Rainbows...is it only in HD?
« on: August 03, 2009, 05:17:01 AM »
So, I read the forum rules 'n such of various forums and sub forums, and this one seems to be the place to post my question.

What is my question, you ask? Why, look above you! I simply want to know if the mentioned movie has been subbed in ANYTHING besides .MKV. Either my computer can't play it, or I just couldn't see the way TO play it in those silly guides. Not once did I see the solid, easy, spoon-feeding, "Hey, this is what you do when the audio and video of an .MKV file don't sync up." explanations...so, being the smart fellow that I am, I decided to ask you all about it.

Well, is it out there? Is there a non-.MKV Eureka Seven file out there?

You'd really think that the fansub groups would release it in a normal format first, or at least be working on the normal-formatted version. Not all computers play that Blu-Ray jazz.

Is my NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GFS just not enough to play those bad-boys?

Sorry if I'm in the wrong place, or if I posted a previously asked question. I looked everywhere and couldn't find a topic asking about this, so, meh, here I am.

if you are having syncing problems then chances are your 8400 can't handle it.  Have you had troubles with HD content before?

Also I extremely doubt .mkv has anything to do with your problems.  Don't blame the format, blame your computer.

You're just not looking hard enough.

There's an AVI encode of the movie.

Two seconds of tabbing to TT and searching confirms that at least one group has released a SD AVI encode, so clearly you didn't spend much time looking.

Your problem is simple: your CPU simply isn't able to handle the playback properly. You can try using CoreAVC, DXVA or just upgrading your CPU.

Well, is it out there? Is there a non-.MKV Eureka Seven file out there?

See above.

You'd really think that the fansub groups would release it in a normal format first, or at least be working on the normal-formatted version. Not all computers play that Blu-Ray jazz.

Not sure what you mean; are you suggesting that the MKV container isn't normal?

Is my NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GFS just not enough to play those bad-boys?

Your card has very little to do with video playback (unless you're using DXVA, and I somehow doubt this).

You would think so, but more and more shows are being released only in HD these days. Because fansubbing isn't about bringing anime to the masses anymore, it's about bringing anime to people with mega-fast computers, tons of storage space, and huge monitors.[/bitterness]

And as others have said, it's probably not .mkv at fault here. It's the high resolution and video bitrates causing the issues. Try something like this version of Toradora, which has .mkv in a lower resolution.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

It is always possible to re-encode in a lower resolution. It isn't possible to do the opposite. So if they are just going to release one version I can see which one I would do. The surprise is that so few series gets somebody downscaling the groups releases. I sometimes see unofficial xvid versions of group releases coming out an hour or two afterwards by somebody else.
