I'm speechless. Ok, maybe not. Happened an hour ago, lol. To think that that ship was Iran's most advanced and latest warship... *seeks comfort* I hope it was empty when it happened. >_<

It's a trick so the world won't have any objections
for their plans of nuclear power and/or weapons ;)

Lol yeah, maybe when next time they test 'nuclear torpedo' the same thing will happen. We have nothing to worry about.

if its a real demonstration that more then anything should be proof why they shouldnt be allowed ventures into nuclear technologies

Their nuclear technology are fine as long as they don't go making suicidal bombs. If their nuclear powerplants go Chernobyl, it's their problem. Until then we'll see 30% drop in oil price worldwide.

The video looks like one of those american things where they sink an old ship becouse its the cheapest way.
It looks like a Ticonderoga Cruiser(US).

I dont think that is the actual weapons test.

I dont think nukes are verry safe in anyones hands tho.

I don't think it's real either. The footage doesn't seem to have come from a UAV cam.

If you stare at the point to the left of the ship and just under it, it seems the detonation occurs, then hits the ship after a delay of perhaps 1/20-1/10 second.  The explosive seems to have been just under the ship, not in contact with it.  Also, the radar arrays don't seem to be moving, showing that the ship is probably unmanned and not running.  The lack of a wake leads me to believe it isn't moving.  (Note that the water is undisturbed in the entire video frame before the detonation.)  The fact that the massive explosion did not displace the ship sideways would indicate that it is firmly anchored in place.  This supports the theory that this is a deliberate sinking.  Anybody have a copy of Jane's All The Worlds Navies, and can maybe identify the ship or type?

Doesn't look like a Ticonderoga.

I used the differing heights of the 'antenna towers' of the ship as a cue.

Not this one either.

This is the current flagship of the Iran navy named Jamaran. I don't know the class.

Ok, this one looks interesting:

It's a Kidd class guided missile cruiser. The height of the antenna towers of this ship seems more consistent with the ship in the video. The U.S. built it in the 1970's to sell it to Iran in the 1980's but the contract got scrapped after Iran's monarchy fell and got replaced by Islamic theocracy in 1979. The U.S. then decided to deploy it along with the Central Command in the Persian Gulf, which is coincidentally near to Iran... The Iranians don't possess it. Maybe the video's some Navy jackass's idea of making fun of Persian supremacy. I have no idea why they'll want to conduct destructive weapons tests on this class of ship, though. It's as powerful as a Ticonderoga, and the Taiwanese are even interested in buying them. No reason to scuttle such awesome ships any time soon.

It's an acceptable risk compared to the amount of money we can save by having cheaper oil. If Iran knows what's good for them, they'll definitely try hard to prevent such kind of problems, and if they didn't know what's good for them and they had that accident, then indeed it's their problem, their fault.

They have the most to lose from a second Chernobyl within their soil.

No, the correct answer is no country should be allowed to touch these type of things from nukes to other mass destruction type of weapons. America is not a "hero" and "protector" of the world.

If we never touched this you wouldn't be watching anime right now.

What do you think beat Japan into submission and gave them quick recovery?

Yes.

Youre missing the point. We need labs and stuff for making tech. We need measuring equipments and stuff with tiny amounts of radiations in them.

We dont need nuclear powerplants, subs, hangarships or bombs and rockets. All of those are dangerous, no matter whos hands are holding them.
Ironicly the ones that screams the loudest about other countries getting nuclear tech is the us, they have all the above.

Read the last 3 Walls-of-Texts of the first page of this thread (or the first three of the whole thread lol) and you'll better understand how weapons of mass destruction are important parts of our daily life.

no the point is if you fuck up things you want done right, then why when it comes to something that could affect millions like nuclear technologies applied for anything be it power plants or weapons. It dont matter the fact is, when its not done perfect things go horribly wrong and tens of thousands if not more can be affected when it does go wrong

You're acting like it's no big deal. A lot of the damage caused by Chernobyl was from the radiation carried by the wind across the world.

All too true. Sweden had to advice against different kind of foodstuff due to the high radiation levels. Sweden isn't close to Chernobyl, it isn't near, it is pretty far away actually.
