To me, I feel the meaning of life is to explore as much of life as we can.

Learn as much as you can, experience as many things as you can, form relationships, etc.

There are so many things we can do in this life, and I think we as humans want to experience as much of that as possible.  Also, think about it this way, why do we watch sporting events?  Because we have no idea what the real outcome of the event will be.  Things slowly unfold (or quickly if you're Usain Bolt  8)) but it is the curiosity at what might happen that makes us interested in it.  I think this applies to a lot of things in life.

Then again, we also find comfort in familiar things like a particular song we love or rewatching a particular movie.

I agree wholeheartedly.

The only thing that really confuses me in this world is war.

We have such short lifespans, yet we are determined to blow each other sky high over petty arguments like land.

Sure, I support pixelated homicide, but not real life.

"Every life ended is the end of another story" as I always say.

Our intelligence was specifically designed to be used during wars, yes. That's why we are intelligent: To fight war.  :)

Exactly, Think of how further our eduction would be in other aspects (like transportation and agriculture) if we didn't waste all of our time figuring out new ways to kill each other.

I remember a quote I heard from someone a while back. "If we landed on the moon 40 years ago, why are cars still on the ground?"

actually, 42 isn't just meaning of life...

Its the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything...

But... What is the question?

"What do you get if you multiply six by seven?"
If we're going to quote HitchHikers.

Chiya Chiya Chiya.. I'm so disapointed..

it's "What do you get if you multiply six by nine"  It's on the last page of chapter 33 of Restaurant at the end of the Universe.

The meaning of life for me is... watch anime, play games, and have sex.

Doesn't get more fundamental than that! :D

Killing and predation is the only way by which we humans become progressive.

I remember a quote I heard from someone a while back. "If we landed on the moon 40 years ago, why are cars still on the ground?"

Eh, why shouldn't it?

And I don't think 'because we were busy killing each other' is the reason why cars are still on the ground. Car is on the ground because it's what they are. If it's not on the ground, it's not a car.

Well I prefer to think of it as conflict making the way for improvement. By striving toward the elimination of conflict (an unachieveable goal due to our own psychological limitations), we tend to improve ourselves. In essence I agree with you though, darkjedi.

*Nods sagely* Let's see, the technology we used to land on the moon was, by today's standards, crap. The cars we had at the time similarly were, by today's standards, crap (or vintage if you're a car enthusiast).

If you're gonna talk about moon landing tech, then you'd better compare it with space travel technology today. We're testing many kinds of new propulsion systems and life support systems (especially so), because when it comes down to it, the technology isn't the limitation, it's the people. Look at Voyager and Pioneer, they kept going, and going, and going, and kept working(!). This shows that we have the tech to travel, just that we can't handle it over the vastness of space. Yet. Besides, most of the other places in the Solar System are really crappy places to be, let the robots handle them for the moment.

Then let's talk about cars: Fuel efficiency compared to 40 years ago? Better. Durability? Better. Safety? Better. Aesthetics? Better (arguably). And if you'd talked about a car going 400 miles per hour without a rocket strapped to it 40 years ago, they would've told you to go boil your head. Now we have the Veyron.

This is true as well.  Most things that were invented came from the military.  Ending conflict will never happen. We've come too far from that for it to ever become a reality.

We just got off as a species on the wrong foot...  Is the only reason we are able to communicate / have our technology is because of our lust for violence? Or was in inevitable? I would like to think that it wasn't and we could have lived peacefully, but we may never know.

Simply saying that in the past 40 years, we've landed on the moon (supposedly) and, sure, cars have gotten better overall during that time,  but they could be so much more.  The only thing keeping them down is the big oil companys (Who also had a major pull in US Politics for a while, and probably still do).  Think about it...  If we end up coming up with a cheaper / renewable fuel source that's also environment friendly... some of the richest people in the world lose their money.

Greed and War make the world go round.

Meaning of life = Having as much fun as possible on your way to a slow painful death. Wait whoops you meant overall meaning. So I think the overall meaning of life would be to live it out a gain as much knowledge along the way as possible. For knowledge is one thing that can be passed down to the next generation, and threw that each generation gains more. But I'm not referring to like book smarts, I'm going even broader. I find that knowledge comes with every event that you go threw in your life; be it someone close to you passing away to learn how important life truly is, finding what you want to do with your life threw school or other means, traveling the world to learn the diversity of life and situations in it, looking for a companion to live threw everything happening around you together, or just making friends in all areas to see how different each persons cards get handed to them as they progress threw life. Greed and war has taken over many people due to narrow sight and having little or no acception of diversity. We have always had it, threw-out history it repeats the scheme of someone becoming power hungry and wanting everyone to  live by there standards and every time as you can see in todays society they lost in the long run. Life you could say truly has no meaning accept to live it, but you also can say it has any meaning in the world. The meaning of life varies not only by perspective of the person but by the changes threw-out that persons life. There will be always more then one meaning of life since not everyone walks down the same path in life. Some will say immortality is the meaning of life, others will say it is living it to the fullest, you even will have the people that will say learning from it is the most important and passing that knowledge on. What we may never know is which person there is right or wrong, that is the glorious thing about life, you have so many things you can do, so many things to see and figure out, and everyone will take a different path to the finish line. Trying to find the meaning to life is just like trying to decide what happens in the afterlife, the answers are limitless and to find the right one is almost infinitely impossible.

Greed and war move the world forward and pushes one persons ideal on others due to them thinking that ideal is the best. It doesn't make the world go round, it just keeps life that much more interesting trying to find out what happens next.
When Cookies become alcoholics the world has issues, oh wait that has already happened!
When I was growing up I wanted to become a queen, now that I did, I have to avoid brats chasing me with bats.
When the charm wears off, what do you have then?

Why bother searching for meaning, find what's best in life for you.

Meaning of life?
it's what you'd like it to be. Nobody can truly prove what it's ought to be, if it ought to exist at all in the first place.

Currently, my personal meaning of life is none. Reevaluating everything and stuff.
Goddamn why won't the world just stop spinning for a couple days so I can get it all figured out. I really need a device that would in some way be able to buy me time, either by sending me into the past, slowing or temporarily stopping time.

The meaning of life is to fight an Omaha bear, bare handed in the forest , live to tell the grandkids and then die of a heart attack while having sex with your supermodel Brazilian wife.
