Why such short fight scenes?

<< < (2/7) > >>

Sosseres:
I am of the opposite opinion, many series have too long fight scenes, where they just get ridiculous and does nothing to further plot/characterization. Heck just watch some series like Zeta Gundam, they have a third of the episode in combat, if you skip that entire period you missed nothing half the time. The other half they threw in dialogue in it.

(Not to mention the lovely accuracy where 15 meters is impossible distance to hit something at.)

Havoc10K:
in theese days information about characters is more valuable than a simple fighting scene, the shorter the better, however aside from a nice fighting scene you also want to know more about characters, fake Fate for a perfect example, even in the game the combat scenes werent all that long, compared to character development it 5 mins vs 3 hours, in those 3 hours you learn a lot bout the character and the need for a fighting scene isn't necessary anymore, in a short fight you can easily determine the ability and skill level of the character, or it's inept ability in some cases, quick judgement and then char info, and you make a final judgement about the character.

Take Shirou for example, in the Fate anime he didn't fight all that much, now play the game, and learn a lot more stuff, hes an amazing character with a huge shitload of a character development on him focused, that alone is enough to make you go play the game and learn at least a lot about him, not to mention the rest of the characters.

Fighting scenes arent as much as needed in such terms.

6 eps build up and 5 mins ka-boom, quite useless indeed :]

Sosseres:
Well something to take into consideration is how few scenes that are worth watching in combat. In a space battle spanning hours something akin to 90% is spent manouvering and at most 10% firing since things go down so quickly in most universes. In most cases it just becomes cheesy when you have long combat since one or two hits is enough to win.

(click to show/hide)Like that fight between Sarutobi and Orochimaru, in which it took 10 episodes for Sarutobi to die?

Thinking about that takes me back to the DBZ fights. What was the longest fight sequence that took place during that series?
