Hitsuji no Uta [Retrofit]
« on: August 16, 2009, 07:04:51 AM »
I would like to offer Hitsuji no Uta from Retrofit but something bothered me and I decided to open a topic first.
Atm we have a mix of groups uploaded: http://bakabt.me/torrent/11520/Hitsuji_no_Uta_HnT_SHS.html .
Now this is Retrofit's file info:

  • Windows Media Video 9 640x480 23.98fps (756 kBit/s)
    Japanese MPEG Audio Layer 3 48000Hz stereo (146 kBit/s)
    English soft unstyled subs (SRT)

The bolded text is what made me think twice before making this offer because this is the first time I encounter an encode with this information. Did I alarmed for nothing and am free to make the offer?

Hmm, if only I had been able to find the missing HnT&anime_fin episode 4...

I'm not sure if Retrofit would be an improvement, it seems they use generic raws (at least for this release) with subs from other groups muxed into a MKV container.

The Wiki does say: "Try not to Offer: WMV, RM, QT and Indeo, etc", but worded like that it is not set in stone.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing, "Why do we have a mixed-group torrent when HnT did release the last episode?"

But if people want softsubs and the wmv codec is acceptable to staff, it'd be a decent offer to go alongside the current torrent.

EDIT: This is the first time I've really head about the series, so I don't have any group's version, sadly enough.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

When I adopted this torrent I searched high and low for that HnT episode, to no avail...
The original uploader didn't bother to add it when it was released (long after the rest of the episodes, it seems that episode 4 was the last ever HnT release), perhaps you have it, Zalis? ;)

[HnT&anime_fin]_Hitsuji_no_Uta_04_[F75AEF14].avi ? I checked anime_fin irc channel and their list but I couldn't find any release for Hitsuji no Uta.
Also, "HnT Hitsuji no Uta converted to softsub manually by Retrofit. No song translations." Myeah.

Too bad they didn't go the extra mile and convert the song texts.

Like Zalis said, it would probably go up alongside the current torrent and not replace it, though I'm not sure.

I would wait for a staff member to comment on the WMV issue, one will probably come along within a day... ;)

I think the wiki statement refers to .wmv files, rather than video encoded using WMV. Then again, seeing as it's WMV video, I doubt the quality is very good.

I made some screenshot comparison beetwen retrofit and HnT. I couldn't use the grab function for retrofit release so I used the "Save Image" aka snapshot option from Media Player Classic. For HnT release I used both the grab function and the snapshot one because there will be a difference between the results.
Anyway, the images speak for themselves:

retrofit | Hnt

snap | grab snap
snap | grab snap
snap | grab snap
snap | grab snap
snap | grab snap

Bump.

Well then, is there a reason for which I should finally offer this or am I free to delete the files from my PC?^^

Is it just me or does the HnT one look better?

Yeah, I prefer HnT's.  Also, WMV makes me sad; the lack of conviction in the rules is because sometimes that's all we can get.
