Suggestions on boosting Upload speed (utorrent)
« on: August 20, 2009, 01:52:12 PM »
My share ratio is totally down the hole. frankly because i never seed anything. why? My seeding is horrible 0.3-1.8KBPS average (3-8wks is average on a 2gb file).
Anyone had this issue before and resolved it?

Join the club - It's called get a better ISP that doesn't throttle you. While you're at it. Don't download so much.

Well, some things you CAN do are:
  • Seed active torrents. Torrents with 10+ seeds and few peers are likely not to net you much upload. Also allow encrypted connections from options (this is disabled by standard for some reason). Don't force encryption unless you're paranoid, since that will make things slower.
  • Call your ISP and yell at them. Check a site like SpeedTest.net to see if your speeds are okay. Check more than once at different times if you want a good overview. It also lets you compare your speed to average speeds from your ISP if enough people have tested your ISP.
  • There are network optimizing programs around on the net. I don't have any experience with these, but they can help you optimize your connection from your side beyond the regular firewall issues. I'm sure you can find something interesting on SourceForge or similar sites. Be wary of programs that mentions registry edit, though. These might do you more harm than good if you're not an advanced user.

try to download from other sites and see how it goes , then try some famous torrent that is being leeched greatly and check speed

if not check your port and router and firewall
I don't know much but one of these must be the problem and I had a lot of problems before

I've just been seeding 10-13 torrents nonstop :P

Went from .08 to .3 in just a few days XD (while downloading quite a few seasons during the process haha)

Been checking it from time to time to stop the ones without any leeches.

I started off pretty bad a while back and have been working my way out of the hole ever since...  (just like when I got bad grades in school!)

what plan are u on 2,5,10 20MB

im on the 5MB and i tweaked my utorrent settings to:

global maximum number of connections : 200

maximum number of connected peers per torrent: 50

number of upload slots per torrent: 4

my average total upload speed is around .55 but depending on how many seeders it goes anywhere from .50 -.70

Don't just seed one torrent at a time, seed whatever you download until your internet starts to cough. atleast that's what I do. I have an unlimited bandwidth plan so my torrent client is always running unless when I play online games. I'm seeding more than 40 torrents atm. alternatively, get a seedbox.

Oh and btw, try to download freeleech torrents to fix your ratio.

It's not hard when you get the hang of it.

Freeleech and popular stuff tend to be good ones. I try and leave my client going whenever I'm not around, amazes me sometimes how much its uploaded.

I just keep uploading everything i have on my HD's. I get a 4kb/s average per torrent, but if i multiply that for 14, i get my upload limit (around 60kb/s - i guess that limit is my net connection upload speed fault). I also have my client running almost 24/7, but that can be hard thing to do for some people

For me when I finish a torrent I upload it to anywhere between 1.5 and up. If I can't get it above 1.0 due to no leechers, then I'll remove it and come back to it once people have started leeching it again. I've cleaned up my leechers tab a bit. It used to be 30+ but now it is done to 12, and this was before the display bug occurred.

hmmm.. i only have 1.2mbnps connection but i got 2.1xx ratio (and still growing up.. cause i recently downloaded some files here formerly it was 3.2ratio)

i guess do some test on your network like.. check if your ISP throttles your torrent download.. and doing some speedtest.. and also double check if youre under a NAT network... (some ISP use that.. if it is,, then your doomed, dont expect fast download torrent.. cause in NAT network IP Port forwarding is all closed.. so all incoming request wont be granted .. only outgoing request can passthrough or worst it wont pass.. to open it just call your ISP to open some port for you, but i guess thats impossible xD)
