I personally think this looks amazing and I can't wait to see how it performs once it is released. I just wish it had a larger hard drive so I could replace my 80GB ipod.

I'm more interested in Creative's Zii Egg due to its open nature (dankles will probably like it too). Both are good alternatives to iPod/iTouch.

zii egg doesnt have as nice of a screen, and zune HD has shit for codec support, ill keep my cowon S9 still for the time being

The new Sony one is nice. I hate to admit it... but damn, it's expensive. The granite look... weird... but sexy.

The P3 has a nicer interface than the s9 as well.

iTouch can go fuck a door, iPhone is acceptable...

anyone know anything about the archos?

It looks really nice. I just hope Microsoft doesn't mess this up with the marketing though. The Zune could be a lot more successful if they could just their act together.

But, maybe they are getting their act together. Apparently Microsoft's been asking developers to make apps for the Zune HD.

It definitely looks good but I agree the hard drive should be larger if it's going to be advertising HD video, that drive would be full in a day easily. I currently own the Halo 3 edition 30gb Zune and like it alot but I also agree with mgz, the Zune has shit for codec support.

AFAIK what I've read is that if it's not gorilla glass, it's something damn similar to it. Almost all PMP players have such glass nowadays. To consider plastic is ridiculous. At least, thus is the current generation.

However, Software goes a LONG way as well. I thought the S9 had a pimpin interface. Then I saw the P3 interface... ooo lah lah.

Then that NWZX1050 from Sony. Oh damn. That was eye candy. Pricey as hell, but god damn. Interface. Intuitive. Clarity, beautiful. Easy to use. (not as easy as iPods, but then again, iPods have little to no functions on the song anyways wheras sony's interface can easily rival the p3 and s9 for "on song" options) It boasts an OLED just like the S9 but damn, the interface makes way better use of the clarity and everything than the S9. (Seriously looked like darker blacks on the Sony than the S9. I was comparing my S9 to that Sony in store. We're talking LOTS of black and not greyish interface on the S9) I like the weight, nice and heavy but compact. Smaller than the touch and s9... but seriously... the touch is dumb. I saw reviews that were like "So? is the screen as big as the iTouch?" (I wanted to write a comment saying, "MY E-PENOR IS BIGGER! DOES THAT MEAN I'M BETTER?")

Normally, Sony's music has not made me turn a head since the walkman and mini disc. I knew it was pretty decent due to the PSP and the built in function in their phones... but this mp3 was sexy. I mean... sexy. The s9 and p3 are raw bikini sexy, but the Sony sits like a hot girl with a maid outfit. Totally weird, almost out of place, but you can't help but stare.

GOD DAMMIT WHY IS IT 30-40% MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE S9/P3 FOR 16GB? (New, Sony... I know. I'm just wanting one for the sake of wanting one)

Being an owner of a first generation Zune 30gb I am looking forward to the Zune HD for several reasons. The biggest of these reasons is the battery life. I'm tired of my Zune dying after 8 hours or forgetting to charge it one night and have it die on me the next day. I would prefer a 80gb hard drive because I like putting manga and anime on my zune but 30gb is fine at under 300 USD. Everything else these days just seems so expensive x x

Yes, the zune has crap for codec support but that's what video converter programs are for. I am currently using Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate and it works great.

Cowon boasts 30 hours video, 50 for music(@ approx 40%).
P3 boasts 30 hours (not sure how it's calculated)
NWZX boasted around 25-35 hours I think (Gotta double check that one)

How much is the zune? Can't you upgrade the battery yourself? (I've heard the zune is one of the easiest PMPs to dismantle)

I find there are two things that kill the Zune, the software and the codec support. I own and use a Classic Zune 30g and I will say at the time of me buying it, it was a better buy, but now it has made me change my mind. Though if I wanted to do some fun stuff I could start hard-modding the Zune. As the person above me said they are easy to dismantle, I've dismantled mine once to fix my headset port and the other to fix my port on the bottom. (Since I didn't fasten it all the way down as I put it back together the first time.) If I had the time and money I would look into the hard modding the thing, that way I could have both a longer battery and a better screen. I would also look into any newer hard mods available for the Zune, since last time I looked into the hard mods was about 9 months after the 30g came out.

It is one of the easier PMP to take apart. For the original zune all you need is a plastic wedge as the case is held together by friction. I would've loved to have a better battery but I was too lazy to mod it

I took a look at that Cowon s9 and at first people were saying there were problems but as of the latest firmware update it looks really sexy. Plus it can play my flac and ogg files. How is the song organization? Can you drag and drop folders onto it and keep the same file structure that you already have on your pc?

Basically the same mp3 style format. Drag and drop, higher file recognition, and then it autosorts via album, artist etc. (Keeping proper tags make the pmp even better).

No playlist function like the ipod, but there's the favourites and bookmarks part you can use. But yeah, everything about this pmp is drag and drop.

Samsung p3 has a nicer interface imo (but the cowon's one can be modded, just need to wait for a good mod). The Sony one... wow... pure eye candy. Pure price too... (My cousin is still buying that sony though. Hatred for ipods, and not impressed with the p3 and s9 can do that)

Do you know a program that you can use to tag files? The only way I was doing it was through itunes with my mp3 files, but I don't have a way to do that with my flac files and my ogg files.

From what I have heard, cowon s9 has something called Jetaudio which supposedly has that function.

But you need to ask the others who actually take time to do this and find the program's name. It was stated in the old cowon s9 thread, I just don't remember what the program was called. (I think jetaudio might be s9 only, but not sure. You might be able to use it without the s9)

Got the zune and personally can't stand it. I love the space it provides (( though this item you show could use more! )) I hate that you have to use their program to upload to it. I have alot of issues with the stupid program which might be why I hate it so much. I use alot of Audio books which all look simular to the program so it ends up pruning alot of the files. also naming issues with the zune program. Where it names the file something different than it is!! Gah! It is frustrating!! I just wish it were drag and drop and that is it. I can't stand these players that force you to use their software to sync your mp3 players! Freaking anoying

That is the thing that kicks the Zunes ass the most, is the software. Right now all I want is someone to crack/hack the the zune to make a new firmware that gives you the virtual hard drive setup for drag and drop.
