How much are you gaining or losing on total amount anime
« on: August 23, 2009, 07:50:56 PM »
I wondered if I was forever getting more anime to watch or if I was depleting its stores. So I decided to check into it a tiny bit.

There are currently 74 animes airing. If you keep a pace of 3 an hour that means it takes around 25 hours to watch. Then there are a differentiating amount of OVA and movies that I havn't checked amounts on yet.

I spend around 3 hours a day on average. So I end up at ~24 hours a week. That means that for each week that passes I have more anime to watch than I had prior to this. How is it for other people? Somebody feel like making an attempt at categorizing time for the amount of anime movies and OVA?

4 hours as base minimum, 6 hours average, 9 hours maximum -- on weekdays PER day
10 hours bare minimum, 14 hours average, 20+ hours maximum -- on weekends INCLUDING Saturday and Sunday

Fyi, I don't watch "on going" shows. I watch completed seasons/series.

I have so much already completed anime to catch up on I can't even think about watching currently airing ones right now.
I don't believe that I will ever have enough time to watch it all and then keep up to date with what's airing.

When life gives you lemons, you clone those lemons and make super lemons.

I'm lucky if I can watch 1-2 episodes a day, and on weekends I'm usually out so I rarely watch anything during weekends.

on topic:
if l counted how much l watch and how much l miss, l would never run into anything, you have to count out the anime genres and actual anime you don't want to watch at all, cuz you don't like it, that shortens your "miss% " by around 13%, so out of 100 animes you havent seen you can wipe out 13 anime titles you don't want to see, you can't possible see all anime there is, you would have to have Naruto's Mass Shadow Clone jutsu, and have your clones watch different anime all the time and then, fuse with them to get all the information from it, and l stil ldoubt you would catch up to it. l think Japanese make so much Anime cuz they know us Humans will eventually destroy ourselves, and someday some stupid alien dude wil lcme and start watching all the anime, and say "lol those fucktards sure made some nice anime, too bad they nuked themselves" kana ?

Wha...? 4-6 hours a day? I'm practically bed-ridden and I would watch that much (even if there was that much I wanted to see).

Anyway, it depends what I'm doing. 0 to a few hours a day, I guess. Not really that interested in anime right now. Not much on, and my back log isn't terribly interesting (with a few exceptions). Still holding out some slight hope that some new top-notch action shows will rekindle my interest.

l'm watching whole series at work, and only do some pic edits and drawing practice during the day when not working, or l play Ar Tonelico 2, l recently summoned a figure doll of one character, l still haven't been charged and not confirmed the sending, l wonder why.

Considering I'm still watching anime from years ago, I'm losing so much total anime time that I think it will be impossible for me to catch up on this season, ever. I wish I was like six people.

Exactly, having really started to watch anime mainly last year, you often check whats 'hot/popular' and by the time you watched that something new will have come out then that gets added to the list, and then your interest further and you look into anime in previous years and you start adding them to your "plan to watch".

And looking at all the anime I'ved watched (on my MAL) which already comes up to over 3000 episodes and over 52 days worth of anime, and then thinking of all the anime I still want to watch, considering my current time spent on watching anime per week, and to make it even worse if your a bigger fan of anime where you decide to look at manga as well (for alternative scenarios of anime you've seen) and even visual novels for what I would call the hardcore anime fans D:

I'm pretty sure I can say I'll be near dead before I finish my to do list. (then most would as I'm sure good anime will continue to be released over time adding to the list)

I'm lucky if a watch 1 episode a day, but on occasion when I find something good I might do 5-6 episodes or even just marathon the whole thing. I always enjoy watching anime, but I like to multi-task to an extreme point where if I am sitting around doing nothing other than watching anime I get jittery and can't pay attention because I'm thinking about all the other stuff I want to be doing. The hardest part is actually starting to watch an episode.

Artwork, animation, sound quality, and character design play huge roles in whether or not I like an anime, so most really old series are unwatchable to me. There is also a large portion of anime coming out that bores me, is in a category I don't care for, or is just not that good, so that eliminates a huge portion of watchable anime. I would say there are about 100 series that are must watch/amazing series for every anime viewer, and that number grows by about 1 every couple of years when a classic is released. After that it's best to ride the coattails of newly airing series while watching the occasional old, less important anime to increase your chances of finding those special series.

I rewatch Ichigo Marshmallow way too often to ever really catch up on my downloaded, to watch list, let alone on my need to download list.

Tl;dr
Ongoing series: Up to 2 hours a week.
Finished series: Very picky. Once started, which is fairly rare, all my free time until done.

Edit 2009-08-25
I think the important thing is to be picky. Don't watch anime just to watch it (because you're an "animefan" or whatever), but because you actually like the show. I'll make K-ON! my example. I would have never watched this show, because I think it sucks story-/entertainment-wise. I only watched it because of its popularity within the animecommunity. Because I'm picky about what I like, I have spare time to even watch shows I don't like. I don't watch anime just to watch anime mindlessly.

Lol agreed! My list of anime is so huge it'll take forever for me to watch it all to then have to watch the new stuff! The most anime I've ever seen in one day is 6 episodes and I think I've only been able to do that once.

The list of animes that has been downloaded and needed to be watch keeps growing and growing and evetually it will be like Jarudin's list (for those who remember his list)

Worst habit of mine is if I start a series; I'll will watch it to the end (with expection of a few series like doraemon) and even if it's an awful series that shouldn't of been animated.

I wish I could speed up my brain's processing speed, so I could watch anime at 10x or 100x normal playing speed.

I like this.
There have been many series, finished and ongoing, which I've downloaded all of when I first heard about, then decided weren't worth keeping after watching the first few eps.

Why would you want to watch every anime?  So much of it is highly derivative you would end up watching the same show over and over.

I wish I could speed up my brain's processing speed, so I could watch anime at 10x or 100x normal playing speed.

If I get sick of an anime I'm too far into to quit I will watch it on 2X or 4X speed.  As fast as I can read the subtitles.  You can burn through a series in no time like that.

That would defeat the point of watching it, it would be like putting a song on higher speed just to reach the end, you wouldn't hear it properly and you wouldn't enjoy the other aspects like the background music, etc.

If it had appreciable background music, etc. I wouldn't be fast forwarding it.

I have to echo other statements in this thread.I dont just watch anime out of some fandom
of the genre.Im pretty picky honestly.I try to pick things i know i will probably like or because
its been recommended as being really good.If i put on a couple episodes and it sucks im going
to stop watching. If you get curious how a bad anime ends dont waste time watching it go
wiki up the ending  :P
