Starship Operators

Pretty graphics and animation. No comment on the computer CG so far. I'm liking it.  :D

The chick in the middle with the purple hair is the main character.

it was a fairly so-so space opera. Crest and Banner of the Stars one, two and three were better, IMO.

Infinite Ryvius is pretty good, as well.

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

Seen them. Nadisco (spelling?) as well. I do need to see the movie for Nadisco tho'.

What this did better than the others was to try for some space tactics. The others skimmed that part in most cases.

But the tactics were terrible in all of them, so that's a wash (and actually Crest/Banner did show tactics and strategy).

If you want good tactics and strategy in a space opera read David Weber's Honor Harrington series.

Read, following, waiting for next book. I also liked some of the Elizabeth Moon books when it comes to tactics, but they are more drama oriented.

Sorry, is that an anime?! ...

I'm gonna actually side with Spaceship Operators and Banners of the Stars. I am on the 4th episode of Spaceship Operators and it is looking much better than I expected. The tactics were done very well compared to Banners of the Stars. I'll give my final judgement once I finish this anime.

Either way, this is about Spaceship Operators and the fact of the matter is that it doesn't suck like some other series I've seen. I'm enjoying it.

Nope. Novel series. The first book, On Basilisk Station, for free from the publisher.

They're all terrible on tactics. Better opera than space (still good though).

I just recently re-watched Starship Operators in English. (Dub is passable, but not great; I wouldn't recommend it to people who don't care for dubs in general.) I thought the tactics were at least above average, and the show's science scores points for having lasers actually travel at the speed of light, among other things. The main problem I had was there there's so many characters introduced over 13 episodes that it's hard to keep the names straight, let alone get emotionally involved when bad things happen to them. But the last third of the last episode ranks among the best anime sequences I've ever seen. Make sure you're watching the zx version for it, which I assume you are.

I also really liked the ED, Chi ni kaeru ~on the earth~. In fact, seeing Kotoko perform it live at A-Kon 2006 was what got me interested in Starship Operators in the first place.

I do need to see the movie for Nadesico tho'.

I wouldn't go out of your way to watch it. The character attitudes and overall tone are completely different from the TV series. I gave Nadesico TV a 10/10, but the movie only warranted a 5 in my book.

Why should I watch the zx version? I remember downloading it yesterday. I have the other one. What's the difference?

Edit -- I see! Episode 3 shows Shion's butt cheeks! The one I was watching had them censored. Plus the quality is much better and sound too! Thanks =D I gotta go take few screen shots of her ass now.

You were watching the Anime-MX version? That surprises me, as I know you don't care for English dubs or R1 subs. Actually, I was referring to the way zx handled something in the last episode.
(click to show/hide)
Spoiler is not for any plot elements, but better safe than sorry.

I didn't know about any censorship... post those screenshots once you've taken them, I want to compare them against the R1 version.

They had Japanese voices. I don't like English voices as you know it. The screen shots ... let me see.

Man I love my blog. I'm using it as my host for almost everything! It's so easy to upload stuff on it. -hugs otakixus blog- anyways:

First shot is the anime-mx, so much fog that the rest of her body is freaking pure white up to her shoulders (didn't take the rest).
(click to show/hide)

Now, for the next shots are from zx ... the one you recommended.
(click to show/hide)

Took a little extra shots here and there. But well, you can see her ass through the fog. In the other one (anime-mx) you can't. Shion's ass cheeks ... -hugs them!- ..  :P

Strange, Anime-MX must've overdone some filter or something. Here's a shot of the same scene in Exiled-Destiny's* release:
(click to show/hide)
I was going to post the same shot from the DVD itself. But oddly enough, when I played the disc on my TV, it looked like the zx screencaps. And yet when I played it on my PC, it looked like the MX image  ??? So you'll have to take my (and E-D's) word for it, the R1 DVDs are not censored. Ass cheeks aside, I think you'll find zx more to your liking overall. I'll be waiting for your thoughts on the conclusion.

*Which used to be on Box, before I replaced it with MX's due to smaller file size and styled subs.

It's so awesome. I'm on episode 9, half way  :D You know ... That part?  :D :D :D It's funny. I wonder if Shion's gonna be interested in someone or not.

Edit -- Now I know what you mean by episode 10, or was it 11? I like episode 9 and 10 tho I favor 9 over 10. The anime was too cramped for the details and characters they've showing. It needs more episodes, something like Gundam's 50 episodes. I think it was rushed. I'm not totally sure how I would put this anime in my category. It wouldn't hit favorites, so it's in my loved section. I'll update it when I get back home. Tho I liked the series. It was interesting and there was a lot of tactics. Shion was awesome, and sexy. >3 I'd rather have an OVA, or maybe a complete remake with more episodes. There was too many characters ...

well sorry, I'm kinda confused, I strongly hate it when they cut even the slightest parts of a show, whether for violence, nudity or any other reasons, I don't care much about dubs, specially mediocre ones.

so what release has the best audio, video and no cuts?

thx in advance, I didn't want to make a new thread for the question so I thought I ask here.

also, what board this type of question usually goes  into?

The xz or was it zx file? its over 4GB on BakaBT so download that one. I just noticed, this anime, Spaceship Operators, is actually made by J.C.Staff as the animators :D! That's just one bump to make it a favorite of mine. Come to think of it, the whole enviorement wasn't much advanced either. Well, you don't expect so much from a 2005 anime but it was still good.

No version is "cut," it's just an encoding issue that apparently obscures some details in the Anime-MX version. If you don't need the English audio track, the zx version will be just fine.

Kinda makes me wonder like what happened after the kiss part in episode 9, like what did the characters do after that? ;/ Heh.

thats one irritating encoding issue, overbright Buttshine...
