If they download good quality raws, OCR crunchy and then put that in as a srt sub in a mp4/mkv container they will do decent releases. Especially if they add in a quick quality check on the subs, then they might even do good releases.

That day was already there for me :( I think it was the last episode of Skip Beat!...

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

I have never downloaded Horrible subs before. I have a question though: do they do the encodes themselves? Or they simply use raws uploaded then mux a script? Or rip CRs video?

I think all they do is rip the streams. They don't encode nor translate anything, and they don't do a quality check either... I'm not sure if how they put the subtitles in though.. when they rip the file must already be in mkv or something...

At the Otakon Fansubs & Industry panel, it was mentioned that HorribleSubs sometimes adds mistakes to CR's subs to make them look worse. Why, I don't know. Maybe to spur people to download "scene" fansubs rather than sign up for Crunchyroll's service?

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

They bring me the stuff I want. I couldn't watch Skip Beat thanks to CrunchyRoll, but HorribleSubs ripped it and brought it to us (saw CrustyRolls episodes here and there when they were available).

I generally don't like them, though I can understand you, Tatsu, when they're ripping a show that is hard to come by. I did find myself downloading NS124 this week 'cause they were faster than Taka. But I don't archive any of their files..

you mean you cant wait an extra few days for a good release, so you will watch a bad one? i don't get that - say they release Naruto every thursday evening - and Taka are roughly every Sunday, does watching Naruto every Sunday matter?  :-\

Totally agree. HorribleSubs would probably be the last thing I'd touch if there was another decent Fansub out there subbing the show. Tho', I watch completed shows only.

Well, HS rips aren't exactly bad according to my book. And if the episode is really good I find myself re-watching when Taka releases. Taka releases, on a good week, on Fridays. They've found a capper now so release times should be getting pretty consistent.

No, they just figured out how to decrypt the subtitles. You can find the encrypted subs using firebug.
