One thing everyone forgets.

It's for windows.

Mac won't be nice for a set up like this, and linux doesn't care.

I think I'll just stick to my laptop and an extra monitor. That thing just looks damned stupid. And probably weighs a huge amount too 0_o

You'd be fucked if the screens got stuck too. Just seems overkill to a market thats pretty happy with what its got.

Lol, well I pretty much agree w/ all of you... the thing is going to be priced for around $3,000 [it does have good hardware... but it's a waste of money, you could get a much better desktop and accessories for the desktop (monitors lol) for that money]. Also they were mainly trying to manufacture it for people who need to monitor things on two screens (i.e. programmers) and need mobility? lol.

Yeah I'm not even going to try to argue their point anymore with $3,000 you could get yourself a nice desktop with two+ monitors and a cheap laptop for mobility. Still think it's pretty cool, but I doubt many people will go for it.

I would never go for it, gave away my second screen after 5 months of having two and having used the second screen for the first week only.

As for this, it is more like a mobile workstation  than a laptop in my eyes. Something to replace your stationary computer wherever you are with all settings and files intact. It is in-between a laptop and a stationary computer as I see it.

True, but for a Great laptop for programming (About 1500 max. I mean, it's programming, not graphic design) + Samsung's USB Powered screens (About 300 bucks) what kind of retard wants a built in dual screen? Ok Ok Ok. Let's toss in another 200 bucks to make an even 2 grand and say you make a custom rack to put the samsung screen on it.

What's the purpose of having 2 screens in the first place?Humans cannot concentrate their attention in more than one place at a time given,so this is so useless...

2 Examples of how 2 screens is useful:

A Programmer has one screen for code or debugger and the other for documentation or the running program.

Office worker with one screen taken up by outlook, the other with all the other work related things (I hear this is a common way to do it, with a smaller 2nd monitor for outlook).

You have to not look at it as using both at once, but having it be easier than alt tabbing to something else to see what is going on. you could have itunes/zune and outlook and a chat program all on that second monitor, leaving your main screen for what you are working on or whatever game/anime you are playing/watching. Email comes in, you can glance to see what it is while the anime still plays.

(click to show/hide)

:p

I'm guessing that thing is targeted at mobile professionals, not students or casual nerds. Sure looks nice.

FAKE EDIT: Yep.

That is just stupid... it's like putting an i7 and two video cards in a box and call it a laptop.
All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out.

I don't remember a portable for either of those. I remember them advertising the psone with a seperate screen for travelling, but that was nowhere near as stupid as an xbox and screen for portability 0_o

the PSX and PS2 were the ones that weren't advertised for, it was more like modding the system. The PS1 did the big hit on that idea. The XBox one was hilarious to see people doing, I got a chuckle every time I saw someone sitting in the mall with one.

Aren't the screens slidable? (looks that way from the pics)

You'd just have a laptop that's about the shape of a cube. ;)

I'd rather buy this: http://gizmodo.com/5113768/crazy-ibm-thinkpad-w700ds-has-integrated-secondary-display

Great specs, built in wacom... a second but smaller screen... but that gives it character as well! Sorta like Vegeta's "OVER 9000" sensor thing.

But back on topic...
Quote
The chassis (which we expect is at least 12 pounds) is built around the 15.4 inch screen (though the first units that come to market will have 16-inch or 17-inch screens) and its twin, identically sized screen slides out from behind the first using a uniquely designed sliding mechanism.

So... 13-16 pounds for the 16/17 inch ones?
