I'm not really that surprised since this company has been silent in the last few years.

Wonder what will happen with the blacklist when the new companies, owned by the same people take over. A few titles are bound to be dropped in the transfer, but mostly no change I guess.

Funi will probably try to buy them or another firm, or ... well ...

If you read the press release,[/quote] you get:
Quote
HOUSTON, September 1, 2009 — A.D. VISION, INC. ("ADV" or the "Company") announced today that June 1, 2009, the Company concluded a series of transactions that are expected to result in seamless delivery of home video products and television programming to customers.
So basically, it's like a fansub group dropping a series and then continuing to sub it under a different name. More of a corporate restructuring than a complete shutdown.

EDIT: More details / analysis posted--

Well, assuming all the titles don't go to the same place, this could mean good news for some of us. Maybe we'll be able to get some of the stuff back onto BakaBT.

Wow, I never expected this to happen.  But I heard a rumor that they had shafted Geneon USA, driving them out of business, and Japanese producers wouldn't do business with them after that.

Having ADV out of business is basically the only way that something like Bubblegum Crisis 2040 was going to get loose, because they actually paid for eps 25 & 26 to be made, so they permanently owned it rather than leased it from a Japanese company.  Good news for Macross fans, too.  Unfortunately, the titles they had rights to, have, in many cases, nearly disappeared from the Net, or are only to be found in really old formats, like .ogm .

It's too bad that ADV had the nasty habit of starting fights with everybody, because their dubbing was actually good, and they didn't censor stuff.  And by everybody, I mean Geneon, this site, fansubbers, other torrent boards, etc.

The news report linked in the first post states that ADV split into multiple companies that kept most, if not all licenses. So nothing changed except taxes, names on companies and owners. That is what it said when the link was posted here and what it has continued to say.

So please don't say they are dead when the facts presented in this thread points to the opposite.

Isn't that what happens when a company dissolves into separate entities? Very much the same way the government broke up Ma Bell in 82? They essentially were the same company but now competing against one another. Thus, dead. Unless the parent company is still in control of the new companies.

Edit:
But it looks like ADV's parent company still holds most of the catalog anyhow. So it doesn't really matter.

First Central Park Media now ADV... You're going down Funimation!

When life gives you lemons, you clone those lemons and make super lemons.

Meh, that's not gonna happen, now Funi have almost no competition with only Viz Media being the big company to sit on Anime licence, unless I'm missing some other company which I probably am. As much as I hate not being able to have Soul Eater on BakaBT or the entire Dragonball series, I feel someone needs to present anime to the world. If that needs to be Funimation or Viz Media so be it. Anime is great so the more people who watch it, the better, even if *cough*Naruto*cough*sounds*cough*like*cough*a*cough*fag*cough*.

Funi won't go down because unlike other companies they're actually trying to give fans what they want. They're providing quick streaming, web downloads of episodes, half / full season box sets at fairly reasonable prices. I don't think CPM or ADV were doing the first two at all.

Currently ADV titles are still a no-go. They're only split into multiple companies so in name ADV is gone, but their operations are still ongoing.

Split into 4 companies, to be precise. Those companies had existed in first place, so nothing's really happened to ADV, except that they've changed name/split up/restructured/lost a few licenses and got 5 more.

Like Southrop says they split into 4 companies and all the most of the anime from ADV will be split between all of them.
So they aren't really going to burn up or die. Just became more companies to license away our anime =[.
