As I said I tend to sway more towards dark purple or black but I still use other colors, I have a good amount of whites, pinks, and blues ranging from baby to navy, and earth tones also. Earth tones are probably my most wore when I'm dressing for something that is more in need of semi-formal, otherwise I go black there, though it really depends if I'm wearing a dress or camp shirt and dress pants.
The colors of the guitar are less of my worry, I look at style and sound, for sound I would have to say Les Paul for recordings is one of the best, but stage play I would have to say a telecastor sounds better when played right. SGs aren't bad by any means, I just find the thicker guitar gives a better sound (I have no proof in this opinion). The Flying V really I find no point in, all it was made for was style. Though I will have to say a stratocaster isn't bad for live play either. Though as I said you have to really play a guitar right for it to sound good, so truthfully any guitar could sound great for stage play and recordings.
True, you shouldn't pick a guitar because of it's color. However, if all the telecasters sounds the same, but there are some really ugly brown and vomit green ones, and some lovely blue or yellow ones.. I'd choose blue or yellow ^^u
Les Paul sounds pretty good on recordings and live, especially if they're used for 'rock' songs (From Oasis for example). I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a Gibson if it means I could sound like Noel

Call my boring but a flying V or a transparent plastic guitar with hand grips or some rubber contraption isn't my cup of tea.
Yeah, a guitar really comes to life in the hands of someone who knows how to play. On the other hand, if you got a few effect, some large Marshalls amps and cabinets and good high quality lines, any newb could sound like a guitar hero (not the game one)
