Munto OVA 1 & 2
« on: September 02, 2009, 10:33:10 PM »
I was considering offering the Munto 1 & 2 OVAs, but held off on it for the moment (even though my offer pages are completely ready, minus screenshots). Reason being, I have OVA 1 subbed by [Blitz] and OVA 2 by [Exiled-Destiny].. and I was wondering if it'd be preferred to have -both- be by [Exiled-Destiny].

Just to make sure it's known, both OVAs aren't together in a series of 2.. they're both single-episode OVAs not released together directly. OVA 1 is the original telling of the 1st 1/2 of the series from 2003, and OVA 2 ("Beyond the Walls of Time") was the continuation released 2 years later. Both are what the 9-part TV series was based off of in 2009 ("Sora o Miageru Shoujo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai", the alternate telling of both OVAs partitioned into 9 episodes).. so having both by [Exiled-Destiny] doesn't seem totally needed for sure.. but that may just be me.

[Blitz], in my opinion, is quite a good subbing group (though they have been inactive since late last year), but I was figuring some or most people may have still preferred [Exiled-Destiny] instead, so both OVAs would be by the same subber (or because [E-D] is better, which I'm not sure).

Comparing the two releasers' versions to eachother, they're both '640x480 | H.264 (AVC)' releases of DVDrips (of course), and are both dual audio.
Exact audio and video codecs specs for E-D's version though, I don't have available.. but [Blitz]'s is '23.98 fps | ~1517 kbps' for video rates and 'Vorbis | 48000hz 2.0 stereo | ~128 kbs' for the audio details.
If anyone can supply opinions/preferences and/or comparisons with [Exiled-Destiny]'s version of OVA #1, I'd try not to love you too much ^-^

Toshi wants to make 1st non-hentai offer  :P

Having both by the same release group isn't quite so important in this case, since the subtitles will all have the same translations. But on some level it's still better to have group consistency when possible.

E-D's Munto 1, as outlined on AniDB, has
Video: 640x480 4:3     VFR H264/AVC (1412 kBit/s)
Audio: Japanese / English 2.0 Stereo AC3 (192 kBit/s)
Subtitles: Full English and Songs/Signs Only (vobsub)

I'm partial to dual-audio releases that include both subtitle tracks, although I know many will prefer the unstyled subs in Blitz's release. There's also a single-audio version by SNSint with styled/unstyled subs that could be uploaded. Yet another option would be anime-takeover, which is XviD .mkv using VFR and vorbis audio. It's got both subtitle tracks as vobsub and .ass, combining the best of both worlds.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

For dual audio (even if I don't watch the English dub very often) I prefer having the signs/songs only tracks. Judging by bit rates and the info here, E-D's would be preferred. For fairness though, maybe you could post some screenshots of both versions. If Zalis has E-D's maybe he can post E-D's and Toshi can post Blitz's.

Also, I split this off into another thread.

I found old torrents of E-D's release of both OVAs together, and even Anime-Takeover's release of the 1st OVA. E-D's has 1 seed but still won't download. Anime-Takeover's has 0 seeds. ;/

Do you think it'd be okay for me to go ahead and offer the version I have? Even if I had any of the others aside from E-D, it'd still be a different subber than the 2nd OVA would be offered by (since I highly doubt anyone would offer - or even has? - RyuKo or Anime-Odessa's version).

I personally really like the Blitz release of the 1st OVA, and wish they had done the 2nd OVA too while they were still active. If anyone else feels like offering the other subbers' versions of it, they could probably just go down as alternatives, right? There are a lot of different versions of it around, but I've only been able to get ahold of this one. Supposedly, it's a bit rarer of a release for the OVA1 of Munto.

Thanks for splitting it to another thread, I should have done that instead of putting it with everything else in the CPM thread.

I don't have E-D's version of Munto OVA1, I have OVA2 by them, though. The only version I ever got of OVA1 was Blitz's release. I'll put together some screenshots from it though so it can be looked over, and compared if anyone feels up to posting E-D screenshots that has the OVA by them available.
It's a bit late now and I have to get up in a few hours, so I'll have to make the screenshots tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks to you both for the responses on this so far. ^-^

I would go ahead and offer OVA 2, but E-D's and Blitz's can't both be accepted. We'd take the better one. If there aren't any big errors that make Blitz's better than E-D's, we'd take E-D's because it has the signs/songs only subtitle track.

I've got both OVAs by E-D, and was planning to offer them both when I finished doing the Munto TV DVDs (Should be in a few hours). However, if you'd like, you can go ahead and offer the 2nd OVA while I take care of the first. That way, we'd have both OVAs by E-D.

I can still post the screenshots sometime tomorrow (or later today now, rather) if there's still interest in seeing their difference from E-D. But since Finalizer has the 1st OVA by E-D to offer--

--this sounds like a good plan to me, so I'll only continue with the idea of Blitz's release if someone other than me has enough interest ;P
I guess that'd take care of the issue with the OVA by Blitz then. But alright, I'll switch from hanging on the 1st ova to putting something together for the 2nd instead. It seems E-D's version is the over all preference, anyhow.
