I can only think of two games that haven't already been posted.

Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup
http://crawl-ref.sourceforge.net/
Your standard turn-based, randomly generated, dungeon crawling, permadeath, fuck-you-in-the-ass roguelike. If you've never played a roguelike before, then Stone Soup is a good place to start. It's got an easy to understand interface, a tutorial, mouse support and a nice looking tileset. Of all the roguelikes I've played, this one pisses me off the least.

Dwarf Fortress

Real time dwarf fortress simulator. That's about all that needs to be said.

This won many might know but I recently (2 days back :)) got into it again. Here it is...

TrackMania Nations: TM Forever
Racing game that can get quite extreme. Mainly time trials against the world basically. Also many navigation challenges 8). Test your vision, reflexes, memory and of course test your skill.

500 MB download
700 MB install

There is also TrackMania United, the full game basically. More vehicle types and maps. They are great, but there are plenty of user created maps to keep you busy for quite sometime on TM Nations 8)
...That Which Once Was...Cannot Be.!?

The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall has been freeware for some time now. If you liked Morrowind and don't mind messing around with a DOS emulator then you should give it a try. And be warned: this game is really old.

A link to DOSBox has been provided on their website.

Allods (US EU) - looks, plays and feels like WoW but give it a shot and you might be pleasantly surprised as I was.
It's still in Beta right now but it's going to be F2P.
EU beta is currently open to anybody until Jan 22.

Also been told that PvP is like Warhammer Online but better though I can't confirm that as I'm still not high enough lvl nor do I know what Warhammer PvP is like :P

Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe
http://www.openttd.org/
Recently made totally free (before that you needed the
data files from the original) and it's great fun. Transport
stuff from one place to another. Get the v1.0 beta since
the stable ones still need the original game.

www.fiends.com has several free games, mostly parodies. The best of the lot is Dragon Court and Dragon Court 2.

Iji

An intelligent platformer/shooter - one of few games that makes you feel like a complete badass while gunning down hordes of aliens. Mix that with a storyline that can either go tragic or uplifting depending on how you manage things. It's a really great game.
