I doubt that you have to prove it for us. Most people with half of brains would know that it was edited for the entertainment value made by a comedy show.

I remember reading an article about a British study on food awareness amongst a certain age group(I think it was 12 year olds), in which a considerable number of those surveyed(something like 30%) did not know that meat came from animals.
When I'm back at a real computer I'll see if I can find a link.

Of course there's selective editing and I'm pretty sure some of the "answers" given to some questions were answers on different questions. The point I'm trying to make is that we DO have these idiots and they ARE more prevalent than you'd like to believe.
Also, we don't teach chastity in school, I got condoms in high school and that was YEARS ago in a conservative state.

Usually they're the legit answer to the actual question. But with selective editing, you get those instead.
However, some of the answers boggle the mind. You can also watch family feud and scratch your head at some of the answers given. Seriously.

I'm in two minds over this video, (it's very old and I'm pretty sure I watched it way back when CNNNN was airing on the ABC).
In short, thanks to selective editing, we don't see all the answers to all the questions, they may have been the only questions that those people got wrong.
However the long answer is that yes, I do believe this reflects the "average" American. Most of the people in the video were over the age of 40, quite a few over 50, so their "education" would have ended a long time ago, they are also unlikely to be on the internet to check on facts and continue a self-education. You also have to take into account that although the U.S.A.ian administration maybe harping on about the "War on Terror" most of the average Americans wouldn't now too much about it; I'm British/Australian and I couldn't tell you who were in the various coalitions, however I can find out.
Not knowing about Pound Sterling is pretty bad. Not being able to find Middle Eastern countries and countries like Korea on a map; somewhat okay, confusing them with Australia; WHAT!!?? You can also watch shows like Family Feud, who wants to be a Millionaire, Are You smarter than a 5th Grader?, pretty much any knowledge based show and come across these types a stupid answers to otherwise intelligent people.
The other thing you have to take into account is that the U.S.A. is the third most populous country in the world and that you should never underestimate the power of stupid people in large quantities.
Can you do better?
