The second part your more then likely right on, the first part I would have to argue about. I know a lot of people that will start and just go threw like a year of college then drop-out due to not being able to afford to go more or just not wanting too. Though I think that the "average American" is a bit smarter then that, but I will say you will still get a good amount of idiots no matter where you go. (No matter which country also)

Mm... I accept 'drop-out' is not a familiar phenomenon to me. All I know is that 1/4 of the U.S.'s adult population did not receive or complete college education.

I don't understand how 'didn't go to college' makes them not understand things that are simple enough to have been taught at a young age. Plus college education does not automatically = more intelligent.

I know plenty of people at uni who'll graduate with fantastic degrees, but still be thick as hell about most stuff.
