Median line (Plan A) is the most common method, so it's likely to be used.

Of course Russia has sent an application where it states that some of it's sea area is actually a sunken continental shelf which means they can claim an even bigger territory. Funny thing is that when that happened, Norway sent an application like that as well, and because of the good data provided, ours is already improved meaning that Norwegian territory has already been enlarged this year.

So basically we gained 235 000 square kilometres already  ;D

Other thing: Anyone here who has a nice armed icebreaker?
We have one... I wish we had more of this baby:

I looked at Russian and US military icebreakers.... why is Norwegian the only one who actually looks like a warship?  ;D

Doesn't stop you from buying a few of those. I am sure the government of the USA are considering buying some military icebreakers....

Haven't seen all Canadian ones to be honest, maybe they have some military icebreakers as well.

EDIT:
Oh well, found this:

Canada is planning to build military icebreakers based on the Norwegian KV Svalbard design  ;D

One thing thats kinda bad about the K/V Svalbard, is that the place it were buildt no longer exist. Its now a pier and parking lot.

No matter, guess there are a bunch of other shipyards.

Yeah, there's the issue where the USA tries to make a claim about Canadian territory (between our islands, not above it) is international waters due to the fact we don't really enforce it with a navy or whatnot. That's bullshit because the US is basically the only people who try to get through there.... So we're slowly but surely creating things to use to enforce it.

This is why this debate is beginning to get big. (Alternative transport routes issue)

Did you research that about alternate transport routes?
You know breaking ice takes time, iam pretty sure it takes ALOT longer to go trough the ice than a bit further south.

It seems to me like this is just one of those kinda retarded arguments about who owns what.
And another thing, why would anyone WANT to have a pice of frozen ice in the middle of nowhere? Its not even land, its just ice.

The only thing i can think of is that it could contain oil..

Oil, geothermal and yes. Alternative routes. Ice breakers up there are one of the issues. Canada doesn't have a lot, so we don't really go there. But some other countries (ie: USA) deems that area to be international waters because we don't go there. They use their icebreakers and go through. At first it was ok, but as I said, its become a debate of ownership now instead of blah blah blah.

If the icecaps keep melting and such, allowing further accessibility, it may be more than transportation routes that are important. Oil and other resources might become the real issue.

I guess Umoe Mandal AS could be up for the task.... except they would make the whole thing fiber reinforced plastic and make it stealth  ;D

I was talking to a Canadian sergeant back in Nijmegen. He said that Canada has frequent patrols which go all the way to the polar cap. So whatever USA claims is bullshit. Hell, Canada really put a lot of resourced to catch the norwegian yacht which tried to go through that dangerous route to re-enact the trip done by our famous explorer Roald Amundsen. Anyway the reason why Canada set so many resources to catch them (helicopter and coast guard) is because one of the members was an ex-Hells Angels member.
I can only guess that American ships will not slip through that easily.

I think that A (or a variation there of) would be the much more likely, B shafts Canada way too much and gives the U.S.A. to much considering that Alaska is their only way to claim territory (remembering that it once belonged to Russia).

Why aren't Iceland and Britain trying to get in on this? (particularly Iceland) or are their deals just not being considered?

Because Norway territory at northern sea cuts off any possible claim? As I showed Norwegian territory is dominating at northern sea now, because of the Svalbard islands, you can't just bypass that one.

Did anyone notice that no matter what plan, Russia will still have almost the same amount of the northern territory?

The real differences that those plans make are between NATO countries. Now that fight will be interesting.

You know I think in the end the Environmental agencies worldwide should be the ones to determine who controls the poles.

IMO a small, neutral country should control the North Pole so that big countries don't get any silly ideas about corrupting the already adulterated environment up there.

Polar Bears don't live on the North Pole.

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.
