Windows XP SP3. Complete fail?
fohfoh:
The only think that irks me about SP3 is that it seems to (in the new patches) use a hell of a lot more resources than before. (Maybe to make 7 look better?)
Other than that, it works fine.

SP3 kicked SP2 in the crotch real hard.
SP3 is better.

Ahh think my little pirate mouth should have stayed shut. Oh well..now i know what not to post.

This post just makes me laugh...
Hell, I've deployed SP3 on a network of 500 machines and had no problems trying to deploy or maintain it. Look, SP3 even works well with NAP deployed on a subnet of 16 machines and servers!
Look, as kureshii said, just go get yourself a legit copy of XP.
I've been running legit versions of XP on my laptops and desktops for well over 2 years and never have I before seen such problems. It's usually people who are blindly pirating Microsoft software that give Microsoft such a bad name. Go legit and I guarantee that you should not have a problem at all on getting it working.

Eh, actually SP3 doesn't do much from SP2, except add all the updates and security patches up to release date (of SP3). It has a few other features like NAP that most people won't know about unless they use them.
What this means is that SP3 is just SP2 but without requiring the subsequent installation of MSXML6, Microsoft Installer, IPSec update etc. So it doesn't really kick SP2's butt except in terms of convenience. More details of SP3's goodies from MS Download Center.
IMO, it's fine to try out "not-so-legit" versions of XP if you like, but before you blame MS for the problems you experience from it, double-check and make sure it's not something malicious that a script kiddie slipped into the disc image. In other words, blame MS for things that actually are their fault (plenty of that to go around already).
