Midori Days by E-D
« on: September 07, 2009, 02:26:58 PM »
E-D released v2's for all eps of Midori Days. Most of the times E-D's new encodes are superior than their previous ones/other group's release. But since i am not sure if the quality is better than B-A's, i made this forum post(expertise needed).

Btw, if E-D's version gets uploaded, will it be worth it to take down KAA's single audio version(expertise needed)?

Dual audio usually competes with dual audio, not with single audio. Personally, I'd never replace a modern KAA encode with E-D, but that's because I'm partial to readable subtitles, actual typesetting, and reasonable file sizes, and I don't care about English audio.

I wouldn't replace it myself either but the rules say that a "Dual-audio release always replaces single-audio release of comparable quality"

Are E-D and KAA comparable?

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

Since KAA uses R1 subs, I'd say so.

You've never watched KAA's Azumanga Daioh, have you?  Pink subtitles on red uniforms is ftw.

I'd requested Anime-MX's release of Midori Days awhile ago, mainly because MX included the Songs/Signs subtitle track and the currently-on-BBT B-A release does not. Which is bad on B-A's part, because given the availability of the better-subbed A-E TV-fansubs and the sub-only HQ KAA release, who's going to be DLing dual-audio Midori Days releases other than English dub watchers? But since no one was able to upload the MX release, this E-D v2 release should be fine. Really, even their v1 release would've been better than B-A's, since I doubt dub watchers would've cared about the imagesubs.

Um, what? For whatever aesthetic flaws vobsubs may have, they are quite readable. In fact, they're designed that way -- that particular saturation of yellow doesn't often show up in media, thus avoiding background-blending problems. But it's a moot point, since the v2s htears is asking about have unstyled .srt subs anyway.

The question here is, did KAA do "enhancements" over the R1 subs? Because in other cases like Chobits and Gundam Seed, KAA's versions still stayed up. So perhaps someone who's seen KAA's Midori Days can tell us if they did karaoke, subtitle editing, and typesetting.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

I'm sensing deja-vu. It's KAA VS the world, round 3. PS: I think KAA should stay. I have vobsobs and english dubs, but that's not the reason. KAA has better video quality. Don't have the ED files anymore, so somebody else is going to have to do the comparison .gif this time.
