Did you clean your Computer yet, or ... ?
« on: September 08, 2009, 03:16:24 AM »
Are you still lazy? I finally got my air duster and I opened my computer up. Dust all over the place and specially clogged up in the CPU fan. Cleaned the hell out of it. Took about 30 minutes or so and started the computer back up. Responds a bit quicker than before.

So, when was the last time you cleaned your computer?! I do it once every 6 months.

dust is the least of my problems. I wish I could detach my laptop keyboard and submerge it in water and clean it with soap. It gets dirt build up on all the keys and it's impossible to get off unless you take your nails to each key. Besides the keyboard though, nothing ever gets too dirty.

I don't have much of a dust problem for some reason. Good air flow? I generally build a new computer every two years or so, so maybe it just doesn't have enough time to build up.

I used to clean older PCs quite often. Good airflow in my newer cases + air filters has greatly reduced the need for that. I just clean the filters once every once in awhile and I'm good. I haven't seen much dust buildup at all in my case.

I used to do that every few months. But since my P4 is too unstable to use... I haven't done so in a while. (Laptops only now).

You should be able to pull off the keys one by one (they clip on to the scissor mechanism below) and scrub them individually. I wipe each key with denatured alcohol for best effect. Done this 3 times already, and it still works fine ;)

I don't have a desktop, used to clean the family P4 every year (horrible experience). But I just bought a new mini-tower for the new family desktop and it comes with an intake air filter. I taped off the other openings (an E5300 doesn't really produce much heat so I'm not too worried about ventilation) so hopefully cleaning it should be a more pleasant experience this time round.

I clean my deskot about every 3 months, and however the big cleaning is done more like every 6 months (Summer and New Years).
And for my laptop, hmmm, I consider it too delicate a thing to fiddle around with. I just dust it of a bit from time to time (sometimes just with my hands ¬_¬).

Yeah, the place I work at's server was sounding like a buzz saw. I told them to power down for 10 minutes, opened it up, used compressed air to blow shit around (after waiting a few mins to let the tower de-static or w/e) and put the server back up. It was fine and "was faster" according to co-workers.

Keyboards are easy as long as you're not oily as shit. Just flip it upside down and give it a good shake every few weeks or so. Vacuum the excess.

Yup, and what I do if I have something stuck in there or something I run a credit card through the keys.  (mainly for when my hair would end up under the keys haha)

Due to the fact that my computer is on basically 24/7, and has six fans (not including GPU and PSU), I have to clean it pretty much every other week to keep the dust under control. I just take it out to my garage and use the air compressor on it. Works great.

I clean my keyboard every other month (pop the keys off and soak them in soapy water, and disassemble and do the same to the case).

I wipe my monitor down and clean my desk off pretty much every week as well.

Haven't cleaned my keyboard in 4+ years. I use Zboard. They're so damn reliable ... unlike the other 5 or 6 keyboards that I accidentally broke. Zboard are detachable and cleanable. But well, there is nothing inside my keyboard ... Or let me check, I still have that air duster. Yup, only very little dust. Tho' I know what you guys are talking about since I cleaned the keyboard at my work. Hell, it was disgusting. Everything flew out of it. Zboard's keys are like next to each other so the dust and whatever else is out there doesn't get inside of it.

So next time to clean my computer is around Jan or Feb.

Hmm.. my case also has 6 fans. With air filters, I don't have to clean it out much at all. How many outtake / intake fans do you have?

Four intake, two outtake. (So four total on the front, four total - GPU and PSU included - on the back.)
