Ok so I download in a pretty systematic manner.... (Technical)
« on: September 09, 2009, 04:15:26 PM »
On a episode grouping basis using priority specification.

Now my seed ratio is all fuked up.
Which is a shame because I really do appreciate the professionalism and high transfer speeds baka offers.

My question is more technical then "HALP ME MY SEED IS LOWS:!("

Now when I download lets say... 30% of a torrents content. Like, 7-13 epidsodes if its a bit of a doozy.
Maybe... 3-4 torrents at a time.
Prob.... 3-4 gigs per transfer specifications MAYBE (This is a high number) Normally my torrent groupings never take more than 2.2- 2.4 hours tops. I'm getting 650-720k.

Am I being overtly punished because I'm downloading as much as my front page baka tracker says.
Is the tracker counting the FULL content of the torrent. Or just how much I downloaded?

Another thing, since I'm only sharing certain file groupings is this affecting the quality of my seeding?
Am I only hurting myself by downloading these torrents the way I do? If more people downloaded in the manner that I do would this change?
"It does make sense if you think about it, 2-3 hours of transfer and you can sample almost entire first seasons from a variety of anime."
I mean on a good day I get 132k upload, but that is a GOOD day. Shit prob like 2-5:30 am
Sometimes mid-week when no one is on.

I know the only answer is, "don't download so much" or "seed more then you download"
Which is all fine by me. I agree we all should share equal responsibility for the content we distribute;
but I'm just trying to get a better feel for the system itself.

So I can adjust my download/ upload habits accordingly.

so let me summarize the context.

4-8 epidsodes per grouping
3-4 active torrents ranging from 560k-730k download
Upload generally sticks around 30k... more under certain downloading/ uploading conditions I'm hoping you can shed light on.
like... I'm at 1mb per second now.... whoah, new record!

but why should I be punished for my isp's terrible misgivings and devilish control over the flow of my digital conversation?

If I'm getting 1mbps download and all I can upload is 30kbps?
Le sigh.

I wont cry about it.
And I'll work on optimizing my bt client (had to reinstall recently.)

but are there any more super specifics you could shed light on that I mentioned earlier? Atleast that would affect my greater download habits in general.

Please no easy answers, I'm very well versed in data transfer and I'm not looking for "hay share mor"
I'm looking for answers as to how the tracker monitors my upload/download and other specifics I mentioned.

P.S. My isp DEF throttles. But I have found ways around this in the past.
Maybe if there's a way I could maybe temporarily use something like The Onion Skin Router or some other anonymous proxy network to get my ratio up... Any information about that would be appreciated too..

Thanx doodz~

O one more thing.

I wouldn't plan on bogging down a proxy network with my traffic ALL the time. This would just be on a necessary use basis to keep things fair to everyone else on baka.

I think any responses should bear mentioning the uses of proxy networks and should beware potentials about the ills of over-trafficking these slightly more anonymous means of data transfer.

tl;dr.
I got to the point you asking if you were measured for what you take/give or the entire product.
To which I'll answer, only what you take/give.

alright that answered a majority of my post simply, I appreciate that.
I'm sure the fact that I only download segments affects the amount of users I can share data with.
I.E. Anyone needing pieces past episode... whatever episode I stopped my grouping at.

And I suppose alot of users don't really specify using episode based priorities and do not downloads.

So I guess my last question could be quickly resolved.

Can I use a proxy network to circumvent the throttling of my upload speeds, or should I just optimize my client, download full file-sets and hope for the best?

Edit: The reason I brought all this up is that I don't want my seeding career to be a long drawn out thing, I'm not saying it has to be 1:1 all the time but if there's a way I can get around things for even a couple hours a week at 300-400kbs upload that would make my baka life a whole lot easier and more convenient. I don't want to be power-leeching and shut out just because I like to download a particular way.

I mentioned proxy networking because from my impression it seemed it was able to circumvent quite a few isp driven issues. I was hoping upload speed might be one of these.

Sorry if my post was all over the place, sometimes I compose my text on the internet similar to my thought structure and I can see how it would come off all over the place to anyone else.

Thanks for any help in advance.~

Edit edit: I'm sorry I just did some basic client optimizations and things are looking alot better.
Most of this was my fault for not noticing basic upload restrictions on my client (I kinda breezed over everything without being overly specific).
I apologize for wasting anyone's time on this, I traditionally rarely make errors so basic.
My proxy question still stands though if anyone has the time.
Look forward to contributing to the community.

Proxies will make your net even slower.

30 kbps up is fairly normal on a 1Mbps connection.

Proxies will make your net even slower.
Also, TOR isn't really designed for high-bandwidth activity like bittorrent; stay off it and be nice to those who donate their bandwidth for it.

The tracker counts how much you download, whether it is less or more than the size of the torrent.

Everything you have active right now has a high seed:peer ratio, thus you're going to have a more difficult time seeding.

You aren't being nearly patient enough.  It will take a lot more than 4 days to seed back the 55 GB you're in the hole.

Be aware that if you get warned, you won't be able to seed the torrents you've partially downloaded, as the tracker can't tell that you're not trying to download.

Stick to the freeleech for a while if you want to download but not bork your ratio. Also since the freeleech anime tends to have a bunch of people downloading them (cause they have the same idea) you tend to have a decent number of people to upload to, and even if you only upload 10% of it back, you still come out ahead because the download didn't count.

yeah I had a pretty large collection even before I joined baka so I've really no need to download any more at the moment. I'll just seed on and off until I at-least get to .7

I just got so excited at the quality! :o

High res lain?!

<3 be still my beating heart.

But I also streamlined my client so I'm averaging around 100-132kbs on off-peak hours; so I'm not largely concerned.

Thanks for all the help~
