I actually mangaged to get x64 versions of everything working on Win 7 x64 RC. MPC-HC worked fairly well with no big problems. I wanted to use Media Center though, and ran into a few issues with that. I eventually said screw it and went with x86 for my HTPC.

Does MPC-HC upscale videos better than Windows media player if they are both using the same CCCP stuff? And do Haali Media Splitter and all work better with MPC?
By the way, if it isn't too much trouble, could you post links to where you found x64 versions of all the CCCP stuff. I keep getting only the 32 bit installers...

x64 ffdshow can be found here.
I used the x64 version of DirectVobSub found here.
Finally, I grabbed the x64 Matroska Splitter found here.
Edit: You'll probably want the other splitters too found in the above repository.
Yeah.. it took some searching, and some tweaking to get stuff to work, but for the most part files played with MPC-HC (Edit: Of course they would, durr. The main issue was Media Center). Getting all of this to work with Media Center.. was a chore, and stuff would still break occasionally for no discernible reason.

If you're going to play it from a file that you have (excluding ISO), then MPC is the way to go. Renders very smoothly. Anyways, this is where you can get 64x:

Problem is that it doesn't support Haali Splitter (yet). Don't see any real advantage on the website to be honest. I'll just stick with what I have till 64-bit Haali comes out.

Actually I tried MPC-HC once. I ran ACX's IGPX encode through it. Quality came out noticeably worse than WMP 12 with CCCP when the video was fullscreened (mind MPC wasn't using the CCCP codecs at the time, I think it was using its own internal stuff). And to be honest, I kinda like what they have done with the new WMP. Try it out for a while you will see what I mean. Very crash proof, very smooth, very light. Its window shows nothing but the video itself and only if you hover over it does it show anything else. All buttons and everything are glassed. The only problem I see is that it cant take screenshots or display detailed media information, and I have KMPlayer for that (which I only use because it puts cool icons for all of my video files). I think I will stick with it unless someone can say with certainty that MPC plays with better quality than WMP 12.
Arveene:Thanks a lot for the 64 bit links. I'll try them out right now.
But i will ask. Does having 64bit FFDShow and everything improve playback in anyway?
bloody000:
Try using EVR_C/A and bicubic scaler in MPC-HC.
Video playback isn't black magic. The basic idea is to demux/split, decode, pp and render. if you're seeing a big difference, the luma level is probably set incorrectly or something like color space conversion went wrong or you are seeing the differences of post-processing(or renderer).
PS: MPC/MPC-HC, ffdshow/ffdshow tryouts(CCCP), they are all ffmpeg based.
PPS: I read that Win7 media apps prefers Windows' Media Foundation codecs over any DS filters. However I never tested/verified it since I use neither WMP nor WMC.
*PPPS: 64-bit filters allow you to use them in 64-bit apps. That's about the only thing that matters.
Takeshi:
xtras, I find it funny that you prefer WMP before MPC. Can you offer any proof of the so-called bad playback that WMP doesn't do? I find MPC to be far superior. Of course, in my old days I used to use WMP because it was already installed, but features such as correcting a bad aspect ratio made me switch.
Klocknov:
So finally CCCP gets a new pack, I can finally go back from K-Lite Codec pack to CCCP. I also think I am going to try CoreAVC also since it seems like a great choice.
So now to the media player side, what is so wrong with Zoom? I have had Zoom Player Max for a bit over a year now and haven't noticed any problems. I may look at flipping over to MPC-HC but I really haven't seen any reason to as of the moment. Is there something major I am missing that puts MPC-HC above Zoom in quality playback?? Main reason for asking this now is I am planning on doing a format and re-installing everything on this computer. I want to make sure this has the best playback possible.
