I can't really say much for Vista due to the last time I used it was Pre-SP1 and so all I could say is it wasn't that great then. But I have heard SP1 did a bunch of great things for it. It almost is making me want to dig up my Vista key (well see if I can find it) and try it again while I wait to get a 7 key. Though at the moment I am looking at maybe getting the RTM and waiting for it to drop on shelfs using the rearm command and getting a key then. Though I truly don't know what I want to do, I want to get my other computer running 64bit and off the 32bit OS and get my DX10 open to use over there, but I also want to do it legally.

I've been using Vista since March 2007 when I bought a Toshiba that came with it and I really don't get all the fuss about SP1. I don't remember any significant changes it did to my Vista experience(which is fairy good btw). Maybe people are comparing a launch day Vista against SP1, or maybe they're saying "SP1 is much better" because "I won't use any pre-SP MS products blah blah blah... hey now it's SP1 I'm gonna tell people it's much better so I don't look like a retarded noob when I use it myself!"
All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out.

I have no problems with Pre-SP products, I have been using XP since release. Vista I used after release, maybe if I had used it longer I would of found they fixed my problems, but at that time I wasn't to happy to not be able to play some of my games so I rolled back to XP. I will have to say, I would probably have no problems now running Vista, for as they did updates that cleaned most of the problems I had. I mentioned SP1 because I heard they also fixed some of the memory usage problems with that update. Though that would be just going by the tech rumors and I wanted to see myself.

I had BSOD issues on windows 7 when it first came out, but since last updates, it doesn't do it anymore. Other than that, I've never had any real issues with windows except my current situation where it freezes upon loading. (Which from what safemode and reinstallation attempts say... it's a hardware issue? Maybe?)

I've had my fair share of issues with XP, also I had a I guess virus that stuck my installation of XP of 6 months back to installation phase. I think to date I've installed on this computer XP Home 20 times and XP Pro 6.

And the unstable crap that it had. And you had to restart XP Pro every day or two to make it run without problems or/and not to have slow speeds. And the firewall + shitty ass protection it has against hackers and viruses (specifcally, viruses). And the crappy shortcuts it had (unlike Vista/7's favorites). And and and ....

You're comparing an 8 year old OS to an yet-to-be-released OS?

I've merely added on XP Pro. And yes. I am going to compare it to Vista and Windows 7. XP Pro served it's purposes. My brother had enough of Windows XP Pro and moved on to Windows 7 two nights ago. Crashes, slow, always needs to restart and had enough bugs with it. Been running Vista for a year and 8 months with not a single problem (stability) on a single legit version. Unlike XP Pro ... the nightmares, the nightmares ...

You also have to take into account that this computer is around 6/7 years old. I have currently had a stable installation of 6 months. I will keep this running XP till I get my Mobo threw the RMA process and then I will be backing all the stuff up on this computer and switching this box over to Linux. But the plans are subject to change at any moment since I have other ideas of stuff to do. Even though I went threw a lot of problems I will say I have had much better luck with stably running XP Pro then I did with Vista Ultimate and Bussiness and Home Media (I believe that was what my sister had). Though I haven't really ran Vista since about at latest nine months from release.

What version of win 7 are you using? Beta has many stability issues with my laptop. RC served me well. Once or twice it froze on the browser, (Though I suspected it was a memory leak issue gone too far on Firefox) but overall, only 1 BSOD total after the updates in RC. And that BSOD was just before the thing did some funny shit and fuxxored up. (I had to bring the thing in a few days ago)

I always assumed 2 things to be the issue in windows 7 for my laptop.

#1: I use a sony Vaio SZ480. This means this model line has "turbo cache". (Dual graphics chips) Windows is confuzzled.
#2: Heat. Though I don't see 70-80 celcius as bad... I guess windows does... BSOD TO SAVE THE MOTHER-BOARDZ!~
