Author Topic: Windows 7 RTM + 7loader (Read 3925 times)

I have installed the windows 7 RTM on three Dell computers, and have used a program called 7loader to activate them. The first two computers were about a year old and activated fine, windows genuine and everything. The third Dell, which is ~three years old, had no effect when using 7loader however. I was planning on installing the RTM on my main machine in a few months (Aion release is coming up and I don't want any problems for launch), but seeing as 7loader has failed to activate this computer I am afraid it might fail on my rig and royally screw me over.

TL;DR: Have any of you guys used 7loader and know if a compatibility issue in the old Dell bios may be the reason for it failing to activate the win7 RTM? 7loader uses a SLIC 2.1 bios modification to activate the RTM, so I was thinking that might be the problem.

Check your mobo manufacturer and overwrite the Dell firmware with an official release and you should be good to go.

However, it's kind of weird that it didn't work for you. What version of 7loader are you using? I've used version 1.5 plenty of times with no problems (on an old Dell laptop, and a newer Dell desktop as well).

I'm using version 1.5 release 2

I also thought that it was odd, because it worked on two pcs and not another, but I am hoping it was just because the third pc is very old and has never had a bios update.

I looked at this idea as a method, I choose I would rather not. Also I don't much feel like doing it the hard way, last time I did that it took three mess-ups before I got it right, and that was to mess with a video card.

What the hell is 7Loader? I have Windows 7 running on several machines, and I just activated it the same as Vista. Start > Right click Computer > Properties > click the link to activate Windows.

Activate via legit version/key? That can be done with RTM, right?

i dont mind buying it ONCE, and only once.

it will work for another 5 years and activate dozens of pcs

Ditto.

I don't care if I get the "your key is already used, please change key and reactivate" blah blah message. I just need a damn OS on the comp in a way that's reliable. (Mainly the Key is Gold)

OP: Actually, have you considered about using the Intel PXE SLIC Mod yet? Read over at mydigitallife forums to see how these guys did it. Yup, a network card can substitute 7loader once in for all... until Microsoft discovers that mod.

Or if you're adventurous, you can hard mod your BIOS to insert a SLIC 2.1 table inside your BIOS. But hard modding one involves risks, so be warned here. Tough I doubt that Dell BIOSes can be modified easily, let alone Sony BIOSes

If you have to hard mod your BIOS just to get around paying for 7 than there's a problem.

Why. Windows 7 is over 300 dollars. Hard modding your bios takes like 5 minutes. I personally don't want to have to resort to that, however.
