300 dollars? Not...

once oem versions of windows 7 come out

And using 7loader or some sort of other keygen is fine. i just draw the line at hard modding and adding shit just so i can be a cheap ass.

I pre ordered the upgrade and getting an OEM version once it's out. After that I'm done paying for 7.

Why. Windows 7 is over 300 dollars. Hard modding your bios takes like 5 minutes. I personally don't want to have to resort to that, however.
Why would you pay for "TEH BEST VERSION EVAR"? Can you even list all the extra features of Ultimate?

Also, as others have mentioned, you can buy the much cheaper OEM version.
All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out.

There you go. Feeling better after being honest with yourself?
You didn't have to mention the price. It's completely irrelevant. Now the next time you get into a situation like this just say "I won't pay for it, EVAR" instead of "At this price, I won't pay for it". It's a torrent site, it's okay to say that.

I know that, lol. I was saying that hard modding your bios, should it be the only way to get windows 7 without paying for it, has some justification.

OP: Actually, have you considered about using the Intel PXE SLIC Mod yet? Read over at mydigitallife forums to see how these guys did it. Yup, a network card can substitute 7loader once in for all... until Microsoft discovers that mod.

Or if you're adventurous, you can hard mod your BIOS to insert a SLIC 2.1 table inside your BIOS. But hard modding one involves risks, so be warned here. Tough I doubt that Dell BIOSes can be modified easily, let alone Sony BIOSes

These two are the damn hardest BIOSes to mod. One being dell's own BIOS and the other being a BIOS written by Phoenix.

That. I'll just get the OEM rather than the full version. No need to waste the extra bucks. Just give me the original disk and code and I'm cool. Keep your books and fancy ... stuff.

Have an Intel NIC? Could you get one for cheap? If yes, you can use a Intel NIC to substitute the hard BIOS mod for those pain in the ass BIOSes, though the chances of it being discovered by Microsoft is indeed higher, but for now they can't see it being used in a massive scale.

So looking at it this way, once the OS is released onto the market, doing the hard mod will be hard to circumvent. Being as windows would have to make something more towards a BIOS scanner, and personally that would be a well waste of time. I would rather just get an OEM key from a brand and just say I fried my Mobo and had to replace it like three-six months down the line.

But the fact still remains that it's more of a pain in the ass to mod than other companies' BIOS. Sure, I bet Toshiba, Asus, Acer, HP and those guys have an annoying BIOS, but not as annoying as Sony (I Lurves DRM) and Dell (Don't touch that shit mothafuka so I can pretend I'm not shitty parts)

Lol.

So that's why I never bought a Sony after 2004. Ever.

Now my Sony POS P4 is living it's remaining days as a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition Terminal Server which really, only 3 or 4 people use it at the same time. It had served me well through High School :(

There's worse laptops than Sonys built after 2004.

Seriously, almost all laptops are going shit right now. I'm very tempted to buy a lenovo and just say "Fuck the world of aesthetics" for my next laptop.

The only Sony shit I ever bought - was PS1.

The only Sony shit my family ever bought - was PS2 and PSP.

Sony is the Japanese word for "Overpriced Substandard Proprietary Shit".

Nothing.

So... is Apple the English word for the same thing?

There's the HP High End Business Models that just look like a Lenovo, but looks better. However I can't comment on the build quality or the rest, except I do know that HP does put their effort in the business versions of the laptops they sell.

Yeah, the Lenovo looks like a piece of crap, but it has served a friend of mine for well over 4 years and it's still runs fine on XP that is.

Yeah, the business HP ones are nice. I though they were based on the Voodoo builds? But I could be wrong....

I got a new Vaio laptop recently, and it still costs about what comparable models do from other brands. The fact that it was $200 off on newegg is why I ended up with a Sony over someone else.

Haven't had any issues with it. Maybe it gets ridiculous at the high end or something, but that seems the same for pretty much any laptop manufacturer. For the price range I was looking at they seem competitive.

They're tossing Windows 7 upgrades out like everyone else is too, so I'll be set there.

Apparently on the Vaio help line, there's a spot reserved just for windows 7 upgrade questions.
