"Warning" Question
« on: September 15, 2009, 06:36:39 PM »
The Wiki said there is no real "Minimum" ratio due to constant fluctuations. So there is no real way to know if your close to being "unwarned". I've uploaded quite a bit in the last 2-3 days and my evaluations went from weekly to hourly. I'm sure it's a step in the right direction but I just wanted some confirmation. My girls been bitching because I've been leaving my computer on overnight and it's got quite a few fans. Lol...

With 0.6 you should be in the clear...
But to be certain you don't get warned again it's best to keep it ~1 or better yet a 1+...

Or variable-speed fans.  I have a computer that I keep on all the time, and it's nice and quiet, without even being designed specifically for that, because I keep the fans on low.

Busted!!  ;D ;D
Seriously, reading the rules and wiki is important, and you won't be making a fool of yourself asking questions that are already answered in the rules and wiki.

You have to do that to sign up to most stuff or install it. Doesn't mean people do xD

What the hell? Ditch that bitch, get one who moans in bed and she won't hear the fans.

Ok first post here and since I started I probably might post on here little more :D

I didn't want to create a new topic. I read the rules and Wiki FAQ. Been there done that.

Ok now the issue.

I am an active user of BakaBT for about a week or so I can't tell. Anyway, whlist I am on my 2mbit connection, my download speeds go to about 210kb/s  however maximum upload possible on it is mere 40kb/s. My issue is that, I have a box showing now that says I will get warned eventually if I don't seed more. I started seeding, however with the amount I have already downloaded, It will be really hard to get my ratio up to a reasonable amount. I left my PC overnight etc. but it only rose by about 0.02. At the moment it's exactly 0.080 (8%). I started seeding ONLY (since my downloads have finished anyway), yesterday evening. So it went all night, definite most of the day today and I am starting to seed again now. No downloads are running.

So my question is, when will my ratio be rechecked to issue me a warning. I really can't speed up a process and I am limited to when I can leave the PC on. I really don't want to get 1 week warning, as I enjoy this site and the way it's made. I'd love to upload more if it was physically possible.

Or is there some way to delay the warning and such. I feel like my post is really unclear :S Basically I have read that if issued a warning, I won't be able to download for a week (from BakaBT) and my ratio will be rechecked after a week which is a really long time. By the way, it'd work out if I could get my ratio rechecked sooner somehow if possible.

Kowal.

EDIT: I have just calculated the times. With the constant upload speed of 30kb/s and without downloading anything, it would take 16.875(so basically 17 days) of having PC non stop turned on before reaching 0.6 ratio. For me it's really not possible to achieve any time soon. Help I don't know what to do now :S. I did read the FAQ. At this moment I am unable to donate any money to raise my upload neither. I am already uploading at maximum possible speed and yes I do have files for upload therefore none of the methods would really work for me.

Ah by the way, I wanted to ask about this thing in the FAQ:

Quote
I got warned, I have no files so I can't seed or download. Woe is me
BakaBT is not the only source of downloadable anime. Try the sources listed above. You'll be surprised at how much stuff is available outside of BakaBT. Download something that's recent and in demand, and seed it here to fix your ratio.

If I have downloaded something else on the torrent (anime but from a different site, probably because it's licensed), hwo can I seed it on here to improve my ratio? I am checking this seedbox thing this moment too.

the chances are good that with 40KB upload speed you will take a week anyway to get your ratio up - so a one week warning wouldn't really be an issue. additionally the extra time you spend uploading gives you a slight buffer so you won't get warned again after downloading the next torrent ;)
you can never really predict when the auto-warn kicks in and it's not really delayable. even if a mod decides to lift the warning a few minutes later the auto-warn will just redo it.
in case you should get a warning and you don't quite make it in the span of a week, but your ratio increased considerably the reevaluation time is/can be lowered.

i don't quite get what you goal in posting this is, you are not warned yet, so you can increase your ratio to not get a warning at all. delaying your warning wouldn't yield you any benefit because you couldn't download new stuff anyway (without digging yourself further in the hole you want to get out) and even with a warning the site is 100% usable (except for the downloading part of course :P) and you can continue seeding.

Edit:
If I have downloaded something else on the torrent (anime but from a different site, probably because it's licensed), hwo can I seed it on here to improve my ratio?
if you can't find the exact files on bakabt (as it would be for titles on the blacklist) it is impossible to seed here.
if you can find the files here you just have to download the .torrent here from bakabt while logged in and point it to your already downloaded files. they will recheck and should start seeding afterwards.

That's what I wanted to know too :P I will be seeding as much as possible (PC shared with rest of the household as well as the connection) I simply wouldn't like to be cut out completely of ability to download even a single episode of something.

To be honest my post was useless :S

I will go look for introduction section or such thanks :p

With regards to re-seeding files: http://wiki.bakabt.me/index.php/For_First_Timers#Re-seeding_Downloaded_Files_with_Different_Clients

As far as I can tell, your other questions are covered in the Wiki as well. If your ratio worries you and you don't have enough upload speed to get your ratio out of the dumps, you have a few options:

1) Get an internet connection plan with better upload bandwidth
2) Get a seedbox
3) Throttle your download

I will have to limit my download greatly. I am running out of hard drive space anyway. I have been on the seedbox page but I have no idea what that is even after reading everything on here :S

Anyway when I buy new external hard drive, I should have the money for donation as well so in the future I think I will be paying from time to time :S

Unless this seedbox turns out to be really good thing :P

Just send PFCorner a mail. He'll walk you through it.

You choose one torrent (or several) and he'll make sure to seed it for at least 10x it's size fast, after which the speed is pulled down a notch until it reaches 20x torrent size. Most of my torrents that are placed under PFCorner's care have already reached more than 50x torrent size. To sponsor a torrent uploaded by PFCorner, you pay 1 euro/Gb. So depending on what you want, it may be interesting, or it may not be. Since July, €15,- has brought my around 1500 Gb uploaded on my account. More than I'll ever download from here in the foreseeable future, which means I'm happy.

There are other ways to get your ratio up as well. Attentively read the Wiki and previous forum entries.

So I just choose the torrent, they do the uploading and I get my ratio up?

Sounds awesome. I thought it just like provides high bandwith upload speeds which seemed like it wouldn't help me as I am maxing out my upload anyway. Thanks I will look into it :P 0.09 ratio at the moment by the way. Going sooooo slow.

You choose the torrent, send them the file as an e-mail attachment (the torrent file contains your personal key). They will most probably already have the torrent archived (check their ftp, where you can already check which torrents are already sponsored). Choose wisely: an evergreen torrent which will have lots of leechers for extended periods of time.

You'll very soon notice that the chosen torrent will appear in you list of seeded torrents. Every bit that's uploaded will be counted towards your ratio. Any possible downloading (e.g. in case of a swap) is done on the PFCorner account. The torrent files are hosted on PFCorner's datacenter, so you don't even need to have the files yourself.

Very convenient way to boost your upload quickly (check Takeshi's tracker account for a nice example of a well chosen torrent).

not to be a spoilsport... but It is quite easy to setup a cheap seedbox of your own rather than using a paid for service... Chances are you may already have everything you need to get set up (assuming you're not on a dial up connection).

First, let's look at the Entomology of the term...

Seed - To upload
Box - Computer

Remember that old desktop that you used to use back in the day? the one that came with an OEM version of Windows 9x? That can be a SeedBox! No, I'm not joking... In Lieu of having actually hung onto such a beast, you can usually find one in the classified for FREE, you'd be amazed how many people want to toss out old computers...

Really you can setup a computer in your house dedicated to seeding with 300-500mhz CPU, 128-256mb RAM, a removable media drive such as CD DVD or even Floppy, a hard drive big enough to handle an OS and the stuff you want to have seeding, Windows 98 or later, or UBUNTU (which you can download free!), a NIC (Network Interface Card) anywhere from FREE (with that box out of the classifieds) to $30 at a boutique, and a cat-5 network cable or WNA (Wireless Network Adapter) which you can pick up for around $20-$30, and last but not least: the files you are planning to Seed (You should already have these, otherwise you wouldn't have a bad ratio would you?)

Chances are these days that if you have an internet connection, you have a modem of some sort, and a router. Most of you probably have a Wireless router, if you look at the series of plugs on the back/side/bottom of the router, you may notice there are a number of places to plug in computers... that's where the CAT-5 cable goes...

If you're just TOO COOL to have all that old equipment sitting tucked away in a cabinet running day and night, I would suggest a netbook as a viable, although more costly alternative... you just copy the files over, leave it connected, and hooked to an outlet.. and let the box seed...

Note: one more requierment might be a reasonable ISP that has good uplaod speeds, otherwise you would have to seed for weeks on end to make up for that 10 gig series you downloaded last month :P

Edit: yes, that is the problem I am currently facing (max 50 kB/s upload). I really gotto move out of this place I just moved into  :(.
