Waterdrop in anime???

http://forums.bakabt.me/index.php?topic=20378.0   That forum brought me to another question I had in mind:

What does the waterdrop symbolize? I see it throughout different anime. It tends to be shown before key moments in the anime, but what does it symbolize, that traquill waterdrop into water?

Unfortunitly it's hard to get a screenshot of one of those "waterdrop" scenes, since it lasts no more than 1 second and I can't remember where that 1 second is to be found. However, it is literally an animated version of this:

Not sure, but the last couple times I've seen it, it was a metaphor for a moment of realization. Or moment of clarity. Might depend on the context I guess.

This. Very context-sensitive, and has a myriad of meanings. It can be used to change scenes in a peaceful way, a moment of realization, a visual metaphor for loneliness or isolation... the list goes on.

Wow, that was way quicker than I could have ever expected to get a reply, much less 2. It's like instant messaging  :)

But thanks, what you both said surely makes sense.

The first time I saw it I was like, hey, what was that just now. Then I came across it more and more often in anime. I still can't believe I can't get a screenshot... :-[

Also reminds me of GUNDAM Seed :) But in that case it was the SEED dropping and opening up which would make them go all SEED mode.

But it can be similar; sometimes I've seen it used when a character suddenly realizing something or some kind of intuition kicking in. I believe it's sometimes used as an example of a character's ability to even hear a water drop a ways off.
