Just because of how awesome this series is (and the fact I don't want to get both Seikai and Kotohana mad by saying Shion is better than both of them combined), who is your favourite character?

Ok so I started this series with a friend and only just finished episode 8, the thing that bothers us the most is that Mion seems to always carry a holstered gun with her all the time, it like a troll or something since its right there IN YOU'RE FACE, me and my friend are annoyed by it, so can someone give an explanation to that, I don't want to go through the thread and potentially spoil myself so if someone could kindly give a simple explanation it would be appreciated  ;D

Higurashi is one of my all-time favorites. At first I was like "WHAT THE HELL" and then I was like "Nah way..." then I was like "MOAR!!!!" Seriously one of the most awesome plot twists ever. The first season is the most confusing thing ever, but by the second season you have built a bond with all the characters, and once you figure out who/what you are supposed to be rooting for, it's an emotional rollercoaster. It's such a great anime; I loved the whole thing. The creepiness factor is pretty cool too.

There are some really creepy parts in S1. Kai will answer all your questions though; no worries.

I KNOW!! That always bugged the hell out of me whenever they were in trouble, especially in Kai. I was like "MION! YOU HAVE A FUCKING GUN!! USE IT YOU DUMB BITCH!!" Hahaha. Anyways, yeah.

Duly noted.

Both seasons and the first 2or 3 episodes of REI answer all questions and answers. Even why Mion has a gun and didn't use it that much :)

Although I watched the show a while ago I also played the games and I think it was only properly explained in the game :) cuz in the anime it didn't actually matter. They only did it in the game cuz they had the text line free for it :)

I'm booking a re-watch of the series for 12th December, right after Slayers.

I liked the first season, but Kai is SO FUCKING SLOW AND BORING! I'm now watching it at 1.5-2x normal speed, that's the only way to make it acceptable. The first season was good, lots of mindfuckery, bloody murder, the fingernails... oh god, the nails! That was the only time an anime made me feel nauseous. You can get things figured out fairly well if you just pay attention. The whiplash moodswings and the fact that you're not spoonfed everything are what make it good. But Kai... It's like being forced to attend kindergarten and being treated like a child when you've already gotten a PhD. After 21 episodes it hasn't revealed anything new or surprising. I put in a larger than normal amount of intellectual effort while watching Higu-ni in order to make sense of it. I was right about everything, and Higu-kai has left me feeling thoroughly cheated for not being given new twists to figure out.

Because ... Kai and Ni are done differently, and were supposed to be that way, if you really don't understand why it was like it go and play the games.

I realize they were done completely differently, that's what I was complaining about.

Yes she was, but why ? that was left unanswered until very late of Season 2. Even in the games you still didn't know what the fuck was going on until the very end and that is why this series is a masterpiece that is more popular than School Days (same time airing and Higurashi was popular enough to get more than 2 games) to net 2 seasons and 2 fanservice seasons.

I dare you, when was it known that the nurse had exactly that in mind ? cuz her motivation was unknown until the second half of the second season, and her being involved was unknown until the very late in season 1.

You're not paying attention to what I write. Please read it more carefully in the future before you make even more of a fool of yourself by telling me things I wrote in the post just before your own.

As for her motivation: It was the most cliché Japanese thing imaginable and not deserving of being called a plot twist or in any way surprising.

Incredible, I did read it, and that is why I replied like that. I re-watched the series many times and in S1 there is no hint for her motivation and to why Rika gets that all the time. You been watching so hard you are mixing up everything.

I said that myself? Yes, I do indeed believe I said that myself. Here, in the spoiler:

BUT her motivation fails the second criterion I brought up in this post. "For my dead (adoptive) grandfather's honour" does not constitute "surprising".

And why Rika "gets it" was revealed. It doesn't matter whether you call her a reincarnation of Oyashiro-sama or a Queen Carrier, it's made clear that if she dies, things go completely to hell, it's plain as day that there is an organisation that wants things to go completely to hell, and it's strongly implied that Takano Miyo is behind it on the local level at least. Did you seriously not get all that just from watching Higu-ni?

Being told there's a behaviour-altering parasite is just adding sciencebabble, not a surprising twist, especially after parasites were already mentioned towards the end of Higu-ni.
