Tetsuwan Birdy OVA ----> Decode, what happened....

(1/2) > >>

LiquidZero:
well i just watched the original Birdy the Mighty OVAs, and they were great! it was like watching a good assed movie with a good ending, plot, character development, and foreshadowing on a sequel.

then i watched the first episode of Decode expecting a sequel or GOOD remake.....i was RUDELY DISAPOINTED!!

they made the main male character into a complete scrub who i cant even really relate to anymore, he's not interested in his female classmate like he was in the OVA. Hes soupossedly a normal good high school student yet in the OVA he was late alot probably would have barley made it into his good highschool, if not for Birdy. Plus the OVA version of him looks older to me and had a better attitude. Not to mention they remade the way birdie looked, which is sorta okay though the original version of her seemed more practical. She had flats on(obviously MUCH better then heels for running) she had multicolored pants (one purple one white, one shorter one longer) and when she transformed it looked as if her clothes just changed hella fast as if to not attract attention. The new transform and Birdy is unpractical, Flashy, and not as cool IMO then the original. When the lead male dies in the original it made alot more sense and had a ton more depth. The new death seems less likely, it seems to me like she coulda saw that it was a human and not a monster not to mention the dieing scene wasnt as deep.
In the original, the monster was in human form and no one could tell. theres many other changes for the worse, there all over the fuckin place!

The other HUGE BAD change was his family! His family in the first one was so much more interesting and funny. His sister was younger then him and often messed with him about the strange things he did, and getting into a good high school.  This new shit completly flips all that around! He lives alone? WTF!!

its like they took the cool master piece movie they had and SHREDDED it into tiny, lame, whackness. i almost feel like i shouldn't have spent all that time downloading it, since i expected it to be like the original or AT THE LEAST, original they turned the lead male into a stereotypical Keitaro character (i.e. Small, nerdy looking, with glasses). The animation style is cool, but thats about it. Its like what happened to Kuro Kami when it turned to an anime (It was GUTTER TRASH!).

I was hoping for so much from the series, oh so much, i mean remakes can be good. the coulda cleared up some of the plot holes the first one suffered from, due to episode constraints. They 'did' clear a few of em' but they did more for worse then for better.
Even as a series the show seems dry (other than the animation), but ill continue ill give it half a season to be good or make up for its losses IMO.
EDIT: Oh yeah and i liked how birdy pretty much worked alone, in Decode she has help.(LAMENESS)
(sigh) all in all i hope the show at least can be good. ill continue watching for now....

All I can say is that you shouldv'e expected this.

Remakes are make it or break its for me, there have been mangas that've been remade into animes and they suck horrible (Flame of Recca) and then there's animes who've made remakes and everyone hates it (FMA2).

I think everyone should expect that a remake or a different version of an anime might be drastically different.

Havoc10K:
tbh, they do a normal anime, it gets popular, since it's based on a manga and novels, but after they start doing them exactly to follow the mangas, ppl tend to be dissapointed, there really arent that many good re-tells, if l'm not mistaken K-On! was made directly to be like the manga, if thats true, than that was the main reason it is so popular, if they only followed throughly with the mangas, the market would be overwhelmed with enthusiasm and popularity, l always ask myself, why they so often deviate from the main story in mangas, why they change something really good sometimes into crap, or good, but then they go back to how it was in the manga and ppl sometimes get pissed off with the work. Strange. l hope you guys understand this, my fingers nailed the kb faster than my mind went, sometimes it's like on automatic or something, and sometimes l make so many typos cuz my brain and hands don't cooperate very well ;]

LiquidZero:
damn, i wonder what made them deviate from the original work so much?

maybe they wanted to change there target auidience from seinen-ish to PURE shounen.
thats what it seems like, since the first one also had hella gore and blood and such.

I had a similar experience with the remake. Although, to start with, I don't think the original ones were so good as you seem to think.

The original had 80's music for the win, with some nice action and funny moments. I remember thinking the remake would certainly be better while I watched it. Improve the animation and action, and don't stretch the content from 4 OVAs to 26 episodes without adding further depth and explanations. The plot was already thin and unfinished in the 4 OVAs. It was decent/good with better moments, and you could easily see this be done better.

However, watching Decode, I slowly realized it wouldn't. It was boring. Some entangled story in the episodes with very few interesting points. Very predictable in all crucial moments as well. It had some nice action, but plot-wise this show is pretty empty. Some stupid things like obvious misunderstandings, sudden interception when telling something important, or the person sleeping just when he is told about it. Quite an average cliché in the end. Not to mention a cliché love story mixed in it too. And power of love prevails.
