I suppose once the right technology comes around (i.e. special cooling systems and less than 20 nm technology with the newer biotech, non-silicon/semiconducter based stuff), PC's will become obsolete as well, and will be replaced by pretty blazing fast laptops. Who knows what the future holds, but the curiosity is certainly fun.

A notebook is more powerful than an ancient mainframe. Did notebooks become the new mainframes? No. Mainframes are still mainframes and still much more powerful than puny little notebooks.

I am not disputing that. For the moment, new high end technology still comes huge and then slowly the safe features are maintained in shrunken down size. This probably won't always be the case is what I was hinting at...

Generalizations are usually wrong. But in this case, this generalization holds true a great deal. Too bad Japan isn't much of a market for its own technology. They make a killing off the US instead.

I'm telling you the generally accepted view. >_>

Korea - along with Japan - is the leading world pioneer in electronics, quantum physics, and fiber optics technology, and the leading producer of transportation and electronic/computer consumer products. Korea has the fastest Internet network worldwide.

Most microprocessor advances have come from Intel, which is a US company. Actual advances in the field of computer science are spread over so many scientists in so many countries to say where it's coming from is stupid. While Asus (a Korean company) is definitely a top quality producer of electronics they, themselves, can hardly be said to be driving advances.

Quantum physics? Einstein, Bohr, Schrodinger, Heisenberg, Podolsky, Rosen, Planck. Funny, none of those names are particularly Asian sounding.

And fiber optics? Most of that research has been done by so many people, from so many countries (primarily Western) to say that Japan (Korea has had nothing to do with it) is the "leader" is wrong. Hell, most advances came from Europe. So not a point for the US, but definitely a "loss" for your precious Korea.

In short, your ignorance is astounding.

Japanese vending machines totally kick American vending machines collective ass, though.

Hey man your forgetting about the ole classic coke machines, come on now.

Someone else was asserting that Japan tech > U.S. tech by using Japanese electronic consumer products as an example, and I was trying to prove him wrong by using the fact that Korean products are equal in quality or even superior to Japanese products as an example also.

So Japan > U.S. because of electronic consumer products = false

I know that theoretical researches have been conducted more extensively by the U.S. and European scientists in the previous generations. But it's Asians now who are making these researches conducive for real-world application and entrepreneurship because less and less Westerners are willing or competent enough to do it, as the older Western scientists keep retiring and as the youth refuse or neglect to indulge in scientific studies or even tertiary education in general. Asia is the powerhouse of new generations of scientists and engineers; Asia is the new emerging scientific super power. Korea and Japan are its figurehead.

Check how Korea's upper-echelon companies like Samsung, LG, and Hyundai has surpassed their Western and Japanese counterparts in the last few years. Korea is starting to dominate the electronic market; Samsung is already the largest electronics producer and 2nd largest naval transport producer worldwide. (1st is Hyundai, a Korean company) And clearly Korea's application of Information Technology is much more efficient than that of any other countries in the world.

Btw, uh, Asus isn't Korean >_>

Technically, Asia does have the edge in microprocessors for the time being. Intel may be a US company, but their Israeli R&D office is the one keeping them ahead of the competition for the last couple of years.
