If it's true, I believe it would be because the R&D offices in the American mainland itself has stagnated in terms of human resources due to, uh, lack of scientists and engineers among the current generation.

Intel's Israel R&D kept them in the performance competition when AMD's Athlon 64 was beating the hell out of Netburst.

And that looks about half a step above those one purpose game thingies... You know, a crap game with an awful LCD screen that I'm sure you can remember floating around back in '92.

Which usually means something better

However its refinement is usually limited to consumer products.

They do invent stuff. Practical blue laser diodes found in you BD drives for example.
