Do tell me what you think of this BakaBT. Is this the next greatest thing since CoreAVC? I will say these thumbnails actually came out well this time. Much better than the crappy black screen thumbnails that CCCP was giving me, which also registered clips in windows explorer as 0 min.

I will say it looks like it may be nice, but I would wait a few patches for them to clean up bugs and clean the source code up a bit so it runs smoother (or faster however the person likes to say it)

CCCP, CoreAVC, Haali Splitter, MPC = end of story.

Forgot to mention, I went over my uncle's house this weekend and he showed me his nVidia pure ... supposedly to play everything at best. So, I said ... "sure". I downloaded a Macross Frontier 2nd opening theme which was 1080p with flac sound and the piece of shit couldn't run both sound and video at the same time. What more, the video clip was rendering at 14-19 FPS. So I had an argument with him and told him to try out what I had on my computer. We did and it played flawlessly with the set up I had. The video clip renders @ 23-24 FPS. I'll stick with this set up. It's the best as of right now.

That combination fails in the thumbnails aspect.

CoreAVC isn't exactly free now is it. This offers the opportunity for free GPU offloading (did you read the article). Don't close your mind so quickly. Experimentation leads to progress.

Well...there is a free version of CoreAVC, although old. I use it and it works fine for me.

And then of course....you realize where you are...so uh...I'm pretty sure CoreAVC is free

Keep in mind we've come a LONG way since VLC. It used to be THE shit. Till most of us found codec packs and such. Now, it's basically second tier. (Third tier being useless shit like real player and those)

In the respect of an old version, you may be correct. CoreAVC itself however, is either a 14 day trial or a 15 dollar license subscription. Provided I could easily get it for free through illegitimate means, but I'd personally rather not do that considering how excellent of a product it is. Against my code...(but I will not shell out 15 dollars for it either, since it will not provide much advantage for me anyway, GPU offloading is not really necessary and stock ffdshow decoders, or even the Media Foundation's H 264 codec will result in similar quality)

Before you call me out though, the reason why I don't follow that rule with anime is because I hate how the companies go about it. Not every show is aired on TV, and even if it is, not everyone has the ability to watch it all the time. Does that mean for people to find new anime series they like, they have to gamble on expensive box sets without knowing if the show they are buying is even a good one? I use bakabt for the purpose of finding anime I like, and all of the ones I do like, I subsequently purchase the box sets, to reward quality work. My uploads are strictly for the purpose of pointing out anime I like to other people, and to remind people of the shows the grew up watching in the case of the toonami uploads. If I thought it would help matters, I would put a thick banner in every one of my descriptions saying "If you like this series, THEN BUY IT PLEASE!!!". Unfortunately that would just cause people to skip over my descriptions instead.

You can get any software for free on the internet. You know that better so claiming "Uh, you have to pay for it" is full of errors. Google is your best friend. With CCCP and CoreAVC, both are unbeatable. Microsoft trying to dominate those two? Sure. In couple of more years they will while we'll be moving forward to something newer. Microsoft is only good at making operating systems. Everything else is just failed products to their opposing competitions.

Microsoft has the potential to do so many great things considering the resources they have at their disposal. However, they need to adopt more of the methodology of newer companies like Google. They are hung up on the idea of catering to corporations, and end up making their products too official, rather than following Gates's original idea of bringing software to the masses. But that is digressing.

Oh okay. I thought you didn't know because from the way you sounded as if you were either a complete newb or just wanted to support your own argument. Regardless, what I've stated is pretty much the best way to view videos. No, sorry ... the only possible way to view your videos in the highest possible way.

From experience, Microsoft sucks at making things. They're even trying to compete with Flash! Are you fucking kidding me?! Just stick with making operating systems because by far that's the best thing they could make. Leave everything else to the world. We have 6 billion people and there's enough out there that will come up with something new.

For the moment, Tatsujin, you are correct.

MPC (although I will say WMP 12 has the potential to replace this) , CCCP and CoreAVC are currently the best ways to view anime (that is sanely encoded). I would be greatly surprised if this holds true 2-3 years from now though.

KMPlayer is an easy replacement as well, for the casual viewer who doesn't want to fiddle around with codecs and stuff. Not to mention it gives pretty detailed media info. Those icons that tell you the format of the files is pretty cool too...just saying.

Actually it really isn't for the casual user, the casual user would just want everything to run right off without clicking this and moving that,
VLC answers the needs of casual users.
But I'm definitely not the type of person who'll use VLC, there are other methods of previewing incomplete media files.

KMPlayer is dead. the author sold it to some big company and the said company is obviously having problems with the code since they took 9 months to release a maintenance update.

Get MediaInfo(and the MediaInfo Lite) if you need detailed information of your files.

I don't really get the point of thumbnails. Most episodic videos start off to a black screen or the same intro as every other episode in the series. Moreover, even if it didn't, it's unlikely I'd be able to identify an episode from it's opening frames to begin with. I'd rather just set things to list so I can click the episode, rather than screen through a bunch of useless "eye candy."

Some programs stick an offset on the thumbnail generation so it can be set to a later time to help with identification, I know all my thumbnails were on a 3 minute offset on my other box.

Still doesn't seem worth the bother. Anything memorable enough from a single frame is probably memorable enough to remember the episode number.
