Tips/advice on seeding?
kurandoinu:
Do you not have any complete torrents to seed already? Leave them going and yes, grab something from elsewhere. ;)

I joined bt few months ago and downloaded some great anime. I always set my upload rate to unlimited and have researched ways to improve my dl/ul ratio but alas, I think my problem isn't my torrent prog or connection settings. Let me explain.
I've always been a fan of anime but for the longest time have only watched two anime series at a time or so. Recently I've met some friends who have shown me some classic anime films like Akira so that's when I decided to join bt and try to watch many films I've missed. This almost always leads me to downloading torrents that have a decent number of seeders but few peers. For example, I finished downloading Millenium Actress overnight but now that's completed and set to seeding, there are 0 peers.
Does someone have any tips or advice on which torrents I should try to download so that I can seed more? I don't know much about current/new animes but wouldn't mind downloading some for the sake of uploading (and "trying" out some new anime ^^).
Thanks, and sorry if this question's been answered before. I'm typing out this post really really fast before heading off to work.

uTorrent's upload is crap. I use Vuze to upload. Maybe that'll help you.
Edit -- Chiya called this comment stupid. :| Whatever. I did everything I could to uTorrent even uninstalling and re-installing, using default menus, adjusting the options differently, blah blah blah. Either uTorrent has a bug, or my connection refuses to cooperate with uTorrent. I upload like a mad-man on Vuze.

How's the memory usage for Vuze? The only reason I use utorrent is its comparitively small strain on my processor/memory. Eventually I'll upgrade from my 2gig to 4gig so it probably won't matter. I'll look into Vuze and give that a try! I do have completed torrents I am seeding but as I mentioned in my original post most of them have very few leechers ^////^ The best seed/peer ratio torrent I have is Millenium Actress at 18/3

Considering that it runs on the JVM, it should be significantly higher than uTorrent. uTorrent is, btw, owned by BitTorrent, and used by at least 80% of torrenters (a personal guess from examining peerlists), so there can't be anything that wrong with it.
SomeoneElse:
Okay... VUZE is run on a Java Virtual Machine as mentioned above, and does take up much more memory than uTorrent talking 30-60 for uTorrent = 300/600 MB RAM for VUZE... but in exchange it is much more configurable, and has a much wider range of doodads... You can set it up so that it is a better seeder than uTorrent if you know what you are doing, but It's not necessarily going to help you out to any great extent if you don't want to spend time working on getting it tweaked out just right.
what I would suggest, if you are really worried about your seeding is to take a look into the basic settings of uTorrent.
First off, probably the quickest most effective way to drastically change how your uTorrent client acts towards the idea of uploading, is in the middle of the Queuing tab. There is a little check box that says "Seeding tasks have a higher priority than downloading tasks" What this means is that uTorrent will look to upload all of your seeding Torrents until they have reached the goal (set just above that check box) before it begins downloading any new files. This means that you can queue new things for download, and rest assured that your ratio will be maintained as a matter of course.
At the top of that settings page, you can specify how many torrents can run at the same time, and how many can download at the same time... You may want to increase the number of max torrents slowly (by 1 or 2 at a time) to see what your connection will be able to manage (if you notice a lot of torrents trying to connect, but not getting anything done, you have set the number too high), but the lower you keep the max download number, the greater the percentage of torrents will be seeding.
These items should help you to seed to your ratio in uTorrent...
