« on: September 23, 2009, 05:47:10 PM »
I want a good forum, maybe even similiar to this one.

I need to know which is the best forum to get? How I implement it on to the site?

I need a place for people to request reviews you see.

Use this one maybe?

http://www.phpbb.com

Ask on their website for help.

Here are a few tips that might be handy:

remake the banner so its larger in width.
maybe make your buttons rollovers.
remove the hyperlink on your review index as your banner brings you to your homepage.
make your images a direct link so when you click on it, it doesnt go to another page.

Implementing a forum is relatively easy, just make sure your host supports (most do) MySQL etc. that is needed to run it.
Just download the software from http://www.phpbb.com of http://www.simplemachines.org/ or similar, unpack, upload and follow step by step install guide...

What host provider do you have? I pay about 80 dollars a month and I get everything unlimited with full features on my website.

I recommend phpbb. It is relatively easy to install, really easy to modify (always back up before doing so), and supposedly MODs are getting easier to install.

Last time I remember MODs being hard to install for phpBB was during 2.x, since 3.x it has been relatively easier.
When Cookies become alcoholics the world has issues, oh wait that has already happened!
When I was growing up I wanted to become a queen, now that I did, I have to avoid brats chasing me with bats.
When the charm wears off, what do you have then?

Last time I remember MODs being hard to install for phpBB was during 2.x, since 3.x it has been relatively easier.

1. Open the file that needs to be modified
2. Find the code that needs to be modified
3. Repeat 2 for every line that needs to be modified
4. Repeat 1, 2, and 3 for every file that needs to be modified
5. Hope that your forum still works
6. Find that your forum does in fact still work

Supposedly they are working on automatic installations in 3.0 (they did start in 2.x, but it was for like 3 mods and it did not work)

On an unrelated note, I remember trying out a different forum system some years ago and they had a package manager-like system for MODs. It would pull a list of mods from the site when you opened up the MOD controls in the Admin options. It would give you a list of all your installed MODs if you wanted to uninstall one, give you a list of new versions, and let you browse the available MODs. It was a one click install, upgrade, and uninstall system. Worked great. The only problem was that they very few MODs and none that were any good.
