College was a pain. I learned how to learn quickly and follow directions and that was about it. Though I graduated with a degree in chemistry I will instead become an officer in the US air force. Can't believe I paid ~40K USD for stuff I could've taught myself (well, I did teach myself).
The way college works pisses me off (well at least my college, University of Washington). I pay 2000 some dollars per quarter for several hours of droning from a professor only to do 99% of the learning by myself; I essentially paid money to take tests. On top of that they make me take useless classes. College is the waiting line for you to purchase accreditation. A good GPA and the right degree is nice but oftentimes if you don't have work experience you're useless.
I did have fun at college but also learned one really big thing: college isn't for everyone and just because you go to it doesn't mean you'll set for life. College is a lens that focuses your aspirations. I didn't have any aspirations that college could help me with so outside of the diploma that will let me apply to officer school it was useless for me.

I learned more in College than University. But then again, they're inherently different in Canada than the USA.

I hate people who always go, "This is a great class. It's an Easy A."

Retarded classes. The Uni's way of allowing students to pay for grades.

Grades sort of mean shit all. I'd rather get B's instead of A's so that I learn more things. There's many interesting and useful courses... not sure if stuff like "music history", "analysis of china town" and other stuff is useful.

I think thats an advantage of English colleges and universities. You can specialise a damn site earlier. I did a BTEC in Graphic Design in college- so only had Graphics, Illustration, CAD and Contextual Studies classes. Now I'm doing a BA Hons in Graphic Design, and my listed classes are Graphic Design, Visual Expression and Contextualising Visual Studies.

Pet hate of mine is that everyone assumes that art related degree= easy. We're actually some of the hardest workers out there, because you can't just rush cram for art.

That must be nice. At my university people normally declared/applied for their majors nearing the end of their sophmore year. No matter what we did general education credits had to be fulfilled: writing, English, art, foreign language, and social studies. If kids were geniuses they sometimes managed walk right into computer science or bioengineering departments first year. The most fun was probably the clay throwing class. I found that I had a pretty good talent for it, unfortunately, I'll probably never throw clay again.
A pet peeve of mine is when I tell someone my opinion on something and they immediately try to generalize me with some group. I lived in a house of 9 was the only guy. One day abortion came up and I said that I was against it in most situations and caught enough flak to put several air divisions down xD. They tried to call me conservative. I told them I was just being me; ask me about gay rights and I guarantee you a "liberal" answer. Think with your head, not with a platform.

lol. I get on fights on a single debate with people on both sides.

For instance... abortion.

IMO
Abortion should be an option to people. Stigmatize it if you want... but keep it an option. For those who actually have a hurtful past to need abortion or a medical complication which may require it as well... sure. But for the one who goes multiple times because she's an idiot and a bonified "slut". She deserves falcon punches instead.

Now. On religious grounds.
Abortion can be considered non-issue at certain cycles of the birth. If it really comes down to it... let each sect consider its own "level" at which abortion is considered allowed, or not. (Though one can always also argue that abortion shouldn't be needed int he first place if "Adulterous habits" are kept in check) But I also argue there are situations where "adultery doesn't come in". (Like rape). Then I have retards scream "it's the will of God". Fuck you. We are sheep. The will of God gives us the Shepard. But doesn't mean we still aren't capable of walking into an electric fence and turning ourselves into Mouton Flambe or hopping off a cliff like a lemming.

Atheism/Agnostic against religious grounds.
Just because you don't feel that the fetus is not yet life, nor does law talk about it does not mean there are still no moral or ethical issues tied to this. If one religion/ethnicity etc. has some issues with it... let them talk it through. Don't be a pushy fuckhole and make everyone "be required to agree with you".

All in all. I think the person in question should be the one who gets ultimate choice in abortion. I don't think anyone else should be allowed to take control. To pressure someone to do so, yes. But officially, nothing should be able to be done by external parties. And those who say "I was pressured. I had no choice" can stfu. They just want to blame other people for their own weakness in willpower.
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.

@fohfoh
The abortion issue is a mess. The leading cause of abortion is failure to utilize contraceptives. People get caught up in the moment and become too stupid to put on a condom. If they're too dumb to put on a condom I doubt they'd raise children to be any smarter. Condoms aren't expensive and neither are pills (10 USD a box and 15-50 USD a month, respectively). I don't want to let these idiots terminate a human just because they were dumb; I want them to deal with pregnancy and child raising. However, I don't want the kid to be stuck with the morons who brought him/her into the world. *ruffles hair in frustration*
Whatever my views are I don't try to force them upon other people. However, I explain to them what I think in hopes it'll help them reach their own conclusion. The government is stupid because they're trying to fight abortion from the wrong end; a signed piece of paper isn't going to stop people from not wanting children. If they want to stop abortions they should promote the use of contraceptives, not make it illegal. Unfortunately, that in turn would appear to religious people to be the encouragement of promiscuity. This brings me to my next pet peeve.
Religious people who think they know what is best for other people and have arrived at their conclusions not through thought but through their pastors.

Whoa, where to start...

1.  People who stuff a ton of toilet paper into a toilet so it doesn't flush.  Even worse when you're on an 11-hour train trip that is about to stretch into 13 hours because the track is overheated.  There are other restrooms, but how long before someone does those too?

By the way, that blue chemical stuff is putrid, almost as bad as the stuff it's trying to flush out.

2.  People who put up unintelligible maps at train stations, then get all pissy when you ask about them?  Newark International Airport was NOWHERE ON THAT MAP, MISS; don't bitch at me when I ask you at 9:55pm how to get there.  I just got off a long train trip and am in an unfamiliar city.

3.  Mapquest.  Gave me some of the worst directions around.  US 1 is NOT the shortest route to Lubec, thank you very much.

4.  People who stand and f--k the bookshelf reading several books with no intent of buying them, or letting others look at some of the other books, then putting back the books with the covers bent back.  PISSES ME OFF BIG TIME

5.  Parents who let their kids scream and talk loudly in restaurants wtih the occasional, meaningless "stopit"

6.  People who block aisles talking when they could stop over to the side and talk or take pictures (Animazement is in a much bigger place; the "no room to pull over" is NOT AN EXCUSE)

7.  Restaurant employees who sit in the customer section, talk loudly on the cell phone and play games out loud while the overhead music plays inaudibly in the background.

8.  Hip-hop

9.  Hip-hop played at 300dB by cars rolling down the street.  Your music sucks; don't accent it with sonic booms, please.

10.  Kanye West and others like him.  Beyonce showed grace towards Miss Swift, and has a lot more class than your tone-deaf ass.

11.  People who think President Bush was the biggest idiot around, then insist despite contrary evidence, that he pulled off the biggest tragedy in recent history as a scam!!!  Take OFF the tinfoil hat.

12.  Spam

13.  People who don't do what I tell them to do at work, then bitch at me when their stuff doesn't work.

@asafan: 8 I will have to disagree with, now if you said new age hip-hop I would agree mostly. Old School Hip Hop had some good music, you have the Beastie Boys, Tag Team, Sir Mix Alot, The Notorious B.I.G., and Tupac. Though with that playing of it loudly, if they set it up right it can actually sound good, but if they set it up with 20 subwoofers in the trunk it still is going to be hardcore crap.

I agree with : 1 2 3 5 6 7 10 11 12 13

4 : Now I personally look at books that I am not going to buy, but I make absolutely sure that nobody would ever be able to realize I touched that book without hiring a fingerprinting crew.

8 : Generalizations are usually wrong. While agree in the case of 80-85% of Hip Hop music, there is some good stuff mixed in with the junk

9 : You gotta admit that such senarios are just too funny. I point and laugh at such people. Until they get out of their bouncy car and come after me, at which point I run. Fast. Faster than their lazy asses anyway.

Oh and on the abortion thing. Somebody ought to tell those people that they need to take care of people after they are born as well. Instead of championing the whole pro-life deal and wasting you energy on pointless debate, first fix the broken adoption system and adopt the children that are already alive and needing homes. If you do that, the whole pro-life thing suddenly is no longer up to debate as now the chances are that kid really will end up with a good life, and people will stop having abortions and start putting those kids up for adoption. Unless you are too hypocritical to do what you ask everyone else to do.

In general though, I hate people with little empathy, and who think any theory or belief is 100% correct. If it was then it would be a fact, not a belief/theory.

Random quote from Bill Hicks on the abortion topic  ^_^

"If you're so pro-life, do me a favour - don't lock arms and block medical clinics. If you're so pro-life, lock arms and block cemeteries"

Another pet peeve of mine that I was reminded of today is drivers who pass cars pulled over on the side of the road to let emergency responders pass, especially when they don't even bother to let the emergency responder pass first (i.e. block it from getting by). Yeah, that is a douchey thing to do. You figure that the pick up truck would get a clue when he sees everyone on the highway switch into the right lane.. or when I make sure that he has a good 3 car lengths of space to move over into... or the big square car with red and blue lights flashing in his rear view mirror with the word 'ambulance' written on the front.

Well, people already replied to #8. Hip-hop from ASAFan, and I have to agree with them. I don't listen to any mainstream hip-hop anymore (@ #10. Kanye and his music can go die), but there still are great lyricists today. Someone mentioned old school hip-hop, but I mean I like old school hip-hop before gangta rap came into the scene meaning A Tribe Called Quest and not so much Tupac and Biggie although Biggie did have some good rhymes. Honestly though I totally understand why anyone today would hate hip-hop because the only hip-hop being funded by the major corporations is total crap and I can't believe that I listened to it a few years ago although it's a good thing I never got into the acting ghetto phase.

Nowadays I listen to Mos Def, Talib Kweli & Common (being the biggest names out there, but not popular to the extent of mainstream rap), underground like MF DOOM and Binary Star and some old school like the Tribe. Generally I listen only to hip-pop with a message and/or with realistic lines and good rhymes, not just people talking about how much money or hoes they have, or about how badly they'll f*** you up because for one: no one cares and two: half (or more) of what they say is probably BS. So I guess all the bad mainstream rappers is one of my pet peeves.

Oh and @ the stupid drivers who don't signal turns and such some jerk rolled over my foot giving me a bruise for two days (I thought something was broken because it hurt to just walk) because he wasn't looking. Now I would've most likely gotten over a lot quicker but what pissed me off was that right after he did that the asshole started yelling at me to watch where I was going... I considered taking out my keys and scratching his car but decided it wasn't worth it even though I could've gotten away. Bad thing is I was in Mexico then and going to the police would've been more of a pain than a help, so that's two pet peeves into one lol.

I really hate people who don't control their kids. Seriously. "He's just a kid" is no excuse. If 1 or 2 years old... ok maybe. But even then, maybe you shouldn't be a fucking moron who can't figure out why your baby is crying for the last 20-30 mins?

haha me too!

I've gotten into countless arguments with people for no damn reason... Most of the time I agree with the person I'm arguing with, but I'll argue to argue...

Almost all of them end with, "So wait... You agree with me?"  "Yes..."  "... Then why are we arguing?" "Uh... I dunno"

Amen to that... lol. Although certain things believed to be fact have been proved to be false, like Galileo or should I say the church and the planets. Of course you could say, well that was a long time ago we didn't know a lot of stuff back then, but you could just keep on repeating that all throughout history. I am stretching the point a bit though.  ;)

@ fohfoh I think it's good that you try to play devil's advocate for both sides. I always hated doing debates in class and having to debate for one side only I mean can't we just agree to reach a middle ground with several points from both sides (everything be a whole easier if we could lol).

Playing devil's ad is great because it not only teaches you where your argument is weak but gives you a peak of the other side of the fence as well. Generally, I love a heated conversation :).
Sometimes there will be a parent who just lets their kid run around being the most obnoxious thing in the world. Sometimes I wonder if they're even trying to control their kid or they just don't care.

Letting kids run lose and be obnoxious is quite annoying, though sometimes they still will even when the parents are strict. Though I think some of the behavior problems come from the divorce and break-ups of parents. I say that from watching friends and family experience this, though I will say some are still behaved, just not the majority. Another thing that gets annoying is when the parents can't control their tempers when it comes to discipline, since some kids will do the push test factor and find that snapping point and always use that in their favor.
