Unable to load 'somefilename.torrent': Invalid torrent file
« on: September 25, 2009, 07:04:13 PM »
For some reason I cant seem to be able to download torrents ..
I manage to save the *.torrent files themselves to my computer but when I try to open them with uTorrent and actually download the files (or in my case actually seed some old files) I get an error:
"Unable to load 'somefilename.torren t': Invalid torrent file! "
It happened with almost all the torrents Ive tried :(

does it have to do with the change from Box to Baka ? some torrents not been updated yet ?

sorry if this was asked before.. I havent seen it in the forum, nor though a quick look in the FAQ :\

thanks in advance

can you give an example of torrents that don't work for you?
are you saving the .torrent files or the actual downloaded files in a very deep directory?

all torrents should work fine, i'm pretty sure we would have heard about it already if something got messed up in the transit.

I'm curious as to why you're saving the .torrent file at all. Whenever I download and the screen pops up to 'Save as...' or 'Open with...' I just open it with Utorrent right there.

Is there any advantage to saving the .torrent file?

it's easier to reseed something without keeping it in the program, or to recover from a program/system change

o0 Even if you use 'Open with...' the .torrent-file will be saved to your designated folder for torrents. µtorrent just saves the file and auto-open it.

o0...
and what exactly does it matter? - it's still easier if you have saved the torrents on a location of your choice (like the backup drive).
and opening the .torrent directly doesn't really help with his problem either - focus on that.

I ask mainly because I'm curious if it would make any difference.

I've had problems before with too many directories. I don't remember what the error said, but it was something to the effect of 'path name too long'.  It's worth a shot to try again having it go straight to your desktop.

Open the .torrent with a text-editor and see what's in it.

Sorry it took me a while to reply :(

Ive tried both methods .. saving the *.torrent and then opening .. and opening directly from the browser ..
I also tried chaging the name of the *.torrent file itself but it didnt work ..

files for example are :
http://bakabt.me/torrent/142112/Gibo_no_Toki_Do_You_Know_The_Milfing_Man_KH.html
http://bakabt.me/torrent/141143/Milf_Mansion.html

which give me the same error ..

*Jarudin =>

In the 'milf mansion' torrent there was this line :

d8:announce76:http://tracker.bakabt.com:2710/I_posted_my_key_here/announce.php10:created by13:uTorrent/180013:creation datei1220885714e8:encoding5:UTF-84:infod5:filesld6:lengthi247568155e4:pathl42:[KH]_Milf_Mansion_01_(h264)_[CB2B2899].mkveed6:lengthi255819262e4:pathl42:[KH]_Milf_Mansion_02_(h264)_[B2E3129F].mkveee4:name12:Milf Mansion12:piece lengthi524288e6:pieces19220:ナ)

plus some other gibberish ..

and in the other :

d8:announce76:http://tracker.bakabt.com:2710/I_posted_my_key_here/announce.php7:comment71:Do You Know The Milfing Man aka Gibo no Toibi, by Khmer-Hentai, Enjoy^^10:created by13:uTorrent/180013:creation datei1226234252e8:encoding5:UTF-84:infod5:filesld6:lengthi250968270e4:pathl57:[KH]_Do_You_Know_the_Mi lfing_Man_01_(h264)_[841AA1EE].mkveed6:lengthi258022895e4:pathl57:[KH]_Do_You_Know_the_Mi lfing_Man_02_(h264)_[13015EEF].mkveee4:name36:[KH]_Do_You_Know_the_Mi lfing_Man_1-212:piece lengthi524288e6:pieces19420:

Very strange .. both torrents work fine here.

Try opening them straight from your browser.

@major9686 : a remote possibility, but I think you are storing your torrent files in a folder that utorrent client is not allowed to read.

[edit] or running utorrent with access rights different that the user your are logged in

now I don't know win7 but, can you run utorrent with administrative priviledges (run as)

[edit] if the above does not mean anything for you, as a test, use utorrents "add torrent from url" function but be aware that bakabt torrent files are prefixed, they might loose the prefix when you use this feature.

@enginarc : Ive tried your method (running uTorrent as Admin)
but Im already logged into the windows as admin :\
@Jarudin : As Ive mentioned before... Ive already tried opening the torrents straight from the browser :(

PS. Now I can manage to open =>
http://bakabt.me/torrent/142112/Gibo_no_Toki_Do_You_Know_The_Milfing_Man_KH.html
but not =>
http://bakabt.me/torrent/141143/Milf_Mansion.html
or
MamaMia! and some others :\

You sure its not something to do with the torrent files needing an update or something ?

PS2:
Ive tried the other method suggested (add torrent from url) but it didnt work as well..
while trying to add this :
http://bakabt.me/download/xxx/xxx/xxx/xxx/Milf_Mansion.torrent
I got "Error 'connection closed by peer' while downloading URL."

may be someone in the middle is intervening the torrent file transfer (isp maybe)

http://earc.heliohost.org/bakabt.rar

pass: bakabt

i will delete it when you respond, it contains info specific to you

[edit] i will send you a pm

[edit] the problem with browsers is that they will not check whether they have acquired the file with the correct size or not. They will just save the file with the correct name with what data they have received.

in this case, if someone interrupts the transfer, the file will be save successfully but the contents will be incomplete. The thing is possibly the intervention is random, in this case some files are downloaded correctly.

if you have another computer, try to download the torrent file from there, the issue might be local as well.

good luck.
